Opening semi-random thoughts -
WILLOWTREE - There are levels of powers for the "Admin" prefix members. 1)Percipient / Admin - Site owner and webmaster - He is all powerful as far as this site goes. 2)minnemooseus / Adminnemooseus - The only other member with full "admin" status. I have powers beyond that of the moderators, including being able to modify topic titles, suspend members, and ban members. 3)Asgara / AdminAsgara - Full moderator status in all forums. 4)NosyNed / AdminNosy, Brian / AdminBrian , Mr. Pamboli / AdminPamboli - Full moderator status in less than all forums. ----- I think some members post too much - NosyNed is the current prominent example. You seem to feel the need to counter every last creationist point personally. Crashfrog is even "worse", although he seems to be currently less active. ----- There seems to be an excessive number of new topics being started (he says as he starts a new topic). I am pondering putting a freeze on new topics. ----- I don't think there is room to unlimited freedom. This forum seems headed towards colapsing into a pile of babble. Enough for now,Adminnemooseus

I post too much.
I'll stay out of some forums altogether then. Could you point to some that I shouldn't have posted?

I don't think anyone is really a problem
EvC wouldn't be the same without crashfrog posting in every forum. -------------------chris

Crashfrog is even "worse", although he seems to be currently less active. See, this is not a statement that is indicative of administrative objectivity on the part of AM. How can I be worse than NosyNed if I'm obviously making an effort to post less? What is it going to take to change your opinion of me, AM? Is that even going to be possible? If posting less won't convince you that I'm trying to post less, I respectfully invite you to fuck off. There's a line between a genuine effort to bring objectionable behavior to someone's attention and outright persecution, and you've pretty much crossed it.

I am wondering if the issue here is amenable to compromise. If the admin has issues we should hear him out.I am no expert in the establishment and maintenance of websites but I am certain it is time consuming so I will lay my guess that this is a prime issue for AM.If I am wrong please slap me down since I do not take things personally and I can always resolve it by going for a good cry anyway.
I wonder if there is some way to collapse down the numerous threads stretching back through the months to make the repeat of old arguements less of a problem.Obviously there is a problem that is going to occur the longer one stay in this forum and this would be repetition of the same issues ad nauseum. However,in all fairness to newbies these arguements are not old hat but probably honest question that a new to them. This is just something that is a consequence of being old farts around here.{which I am in danger of soon becoming To summarise then bitching at one another seldom does more that tear apart what was once a smooth well oiled machine. How about we start with AM setting the real issues if concern he has in point form and I am sure cooler heads will prevail in hammering out the problems here. I will now shut my big mouth and see if this made a difference or if I am just a legend in my own mind. ------------------"Physics is like sex. At least I did give you credit for a certain amount of slowing down.
The bottom line is that, in your relatively short time here, you have risen to 3rd on the list of members having posted the most messages. See the "Top 10 posters" sort, of the members list. Yes, I have been monitoring your message posting rate. A while back, I had commented that you were posting at (As I recall) something like and average of 7 to 8 messages a day, every day. More recently, from 10/28 to 11/29, you have posted 300 messages (roughly 10 per day, average). From 11/15 to 11/29, you have posted 122 messages. You have a long term record of posting a lot of messages! I say, back off, and give others some room. We don't need "piling on the creationist", with you (or Ned) being the "head piler". Cheers,Adminnemooseus

So is it the piling on the creationists that is the problem?
I thought I was mostly trying to help move things along by asking for clarity so others could "pile on". I will cut posting rate if that is what is wanted. Are there any other reasons for not posting as much?

At least I did give you credit for a certain amount of slowing down. I didn't feel that "Crashfrog is worse than NosyNed even though he posts less" gave me much credit.
More recently, from 10/28 to 11/29, you have posted 300 messages (roughly 10 per day, average). I think that you need to use a different metric to assess my contributions here. For instance couldn't it simply be that I'm posting in high-volume threads? If you can show me a recent thread where I'm posting way more than other people, you might have a point.
You have a long term record of posting a lot of messages! Sure, if you look at it in terms of average posts per day. But if you look at it in terms of high-volume vs. low-volume threads participated in, then I don't think I'm any worse than anyone else. It's difficult to see your refusal to take a more reasonable view here as anything but personal bias on your part.

Ned,
I thought I was mostly trying to help move things along by asking for clarity so others could "pile on". I will cut posting rate if that is what is wanted. Don't you dare! Moose, EvC may vey well be a victim of its own success. I know Percy pays the bills, & I thank him profoundly & sincerely for doing so. I really have had years of pleasure from this site, & am dimly aware that it may have reached its "posting potential" based upon previous, similar complaints aimed at craschfrog. I am sensitive to that, but it seems counterproductive to me to warn prominent & prolific members off in the long term. We all have our crumple buttons & it seems Ned, Sonic & I have similar ones. For myself, I notice I have flurries of activity, would it not be possible to consider the mean rather than the moment? But what will be the consequence of not allowing prolific posters to post? I hope others will have the maturity to realise the sites limitations if that what they be, but you have to appreciate, others won't. Mark [This message has been edited by mark24, 11-30-2003]

I for one am willing to help pay the bills if that would make a difference.
In the meantime, I will be posting a lot less untill I understand what the limits are.

Hi Nosy!
I'm tied up on a project right now and have insufficient time tonight to give this the thought it deserves, but just real quick:

I have time to help with support tasks. I probably have more time than expertise but we can start small and safe.
Contract is neither dead or alive yet. I'll try to strike a balance between posting a lot and not. Maybe post as much but build a delay in.

Actually Percy, if you get a chance, could you have all the active Admin's post their views on the "State of the Forums"?
There is a disturbing trend of really good posters getting slapped down for being themselves. Most recently Mr.Hambre was chastised for a simple joke he posted. I got the same treatment. Now Crashfrog and NosyNed (to of the most level headed and polite people on the site) are getting told to shut the hell up. It is as if their posts are being equated with say Syamsu or salty's where the same contentless crap is reiterated endlessly and I find that unfair. If activity levels have increased, I would take that as a sign that the forums are a hit...not that the sky is falling. More new people have been coming in at a rapid pace from both sides of the debate i.e. the internet infidel crowd have shown up as have new creo's like Willowtree and Apostle. Other than actually constraints on the site itself, why is this so bad? Why is 7-8 posts per day from Crashfrog so bad? I am probably not far behind. I can shut up and lurk as well...Moose can have "only Creo's can post month" if he wants. I just fail to see that the forum has turned into the disaster some seem to think it has become. If anything it is more interesting these days. cheers,M

Adminnemooseus,
I think there is a posting problem, however I do not think that the high rate of posting from some members is a problem, per se. But instead the run-away posting rates found on some threads. When sixty posts appear on a thread 'overnight' I for one won't read it. On the other hand, when Nosy or Crash post intelligent, well-thought out comments on seventeen different shorter thread then I, for one, will read it. In other words I think the problem occurs when one, or more often: two or three, posters get into a quick circle of reply-reply-reply things quickly esculate to becomming 'babble'. I think more new topics is part of the solution, not part of the problem, if a thread can quickly be split off whenever the topic wanders I think that would help produce tight, followable and intelligent threads. 2p delivered, Mr. Jack.
