Re: Contracycle, Arachnophilia, Razd
i think it would spiral out of control within the first 3 posts, be a breeding ground for hate, and result in several of us getting banned.
I disagree. I also participate in a board where there are no monitors and no control over what anyone says. It does have the {IA} feature that was mentioned by Lam, but it is rarely used by honest posters (except for the board "trolls" - but that is a different issue)
rarely does this board devolve into slug-fest verbal garbage, although some closely related political ones do.
thus it isn't a given. there could still be a monitor on it to make sure that no one poster was engaging in pure ad hominum as the purpose is to state:
In my opinion {this person}
engages in {this behavior}
and it disrupts other threads
{this} is a specific example
where I have seen it happen
or
{this} is what {this person}
can do to prove me wrong
ie -- it has to be substantiated itself or should be easy to refute if wrong.
thus a claim that {X} is misrepresenting {Y}'s posts can be refuted by showing that {Y} actually posted that exact claim
and a claim of equivocation on an answer can be substantiated by showing that the {person} has substantially changed his position while claiming not to have done so.
It could actually take some of the load off the admins by letting the people voice their opinions.

stop what?
I am not talking about that thread, but a new one. I think there is a need for a place to discuss this kind of issue, and that blanket supression of it is counterproductive in the long run.
I would be happy to discuss with admin what would be some good guidlines for it - does it need to be a forum or just a topic under {suggestions and questions}?
I don't see where this would require violation of the forum guidelines because the main focus would be on substantiating either the claim or the counterclaim (you show evidence of your position or state how your position is falsifiable).
for example
"claim {A} by poster {X} is a false statement"
is not itself a violation, except when the issue comes down to verification.
for instance "claim {6x9=42} by poster {X} is a false statement" is subject to definite evidence whether it is right or wrong
the claim "poster {X} says poster {Y} said {statement C} is a falsehood" can be falsified by poster {X} quoting an actual post by poster {Y} that contains {statement C}
note that this is dealing with the issues of the posts, it is in compliance with the guidelines, and also ... it allows this kind of issue to be resolved without disrupting other threads so that they can stay on topic.
what's wrong with the idea?

The Admins will take it under consideration

Trying again.
I acnkowledge your opinion, as an opinion. I am not obliged to consider it definitive or persuaded if it is not supported. And your aupport must be sufficiently compelling to persuade, not just something valguely like it.
You failed to support your point despite my repeated requests. Such material as you produced as inadequate and I explained why. NBow you are just crying for the Admins to asssert you were corrrect.
Why not just behave like an adult and support your argument?

I would like Manuscript Evidence for the Bible reopened so I can at least clean up/edit/add my position to the points listed at the bottom.

'Now isn't it amazing. I tell you that nobody made a simple toy like that (solar system model) and you don't believe me. Yet you gaze out into the solar System - the intricate marvelous machine that is around you - and you dare say to me that no one made that. I don't believe it'. -Sir Isaac Newton
