It's about site stats but there that's in a locked forum and I only want to make a small observation so it's not worth a thread of it's own. It's interesting how we have logs of "Old-style arpanet". I guess that's a quirk in the log program? Or are people still out there?

It's interesting how we have logs of "Old-style arpanet".
This is most likely a categorization of IP addresses with badly broken reverse DNS. That is, due to incompetence somewhere, the rDNS associates the IP address with a name that ends in "in-addr.arpa".

I'm suggesting a button appearing when an admin is editing someone else's message that inserts an "OFF TOPIC!" warning.
I will try to implemnent it too as it isn't exactly urgent and should be reasonably isolated in the code.

Great! So I should give you a subdomain. If we call it "nosy" then the subdomain name will be nosy., but you can have whatever name you like, just let me know.
Once the subdomain is set up I'll copy the sources into it. I use cvs on my home development machine and do all development there, and I think I'll continue doing it this way until it is no longer workable, i.e., until there's enough software changes coming from people other than me that it becomes unmanageable. If/when that happens I'll add cvs to the server and shift all development there.

nosy. will be fine.
Is there, just perhaps, anything resembling documentation of the code etc.? I'll post design suggestions in private for review when I've done that. That part, at least, shouldn't take long. I hope you are then open to questions (which will be numerous and dumb).

Your account name is adminnosy. I'll email you the password, you'll want to change it. You can access your account at:
Your domain name is nosy.. It won't be accessible via a browser for 6-24 hours. You can upload/download from the site using ftp, but ssh is much better. Let me know if you need a Windows version of ssh. vi is available on the server, I can make emacs available for you, also.

LOL, I've used vi a little a long time ago. I'll figure stuff out and ask questions.
I didn't get this before I tried to log in. I'll try later.

Allow relative links in the dBcode.
If I want to reference a message, but use my own text, I can currently do something likethe text I wish to display However, I would like to be able to usethe text I wish to display The reason for this is that some users login to www. while others login to . This can cause problems for users, if the way they login is different from what is in the link. A relative link avoids this. I can use standard HTML tagsthe text I wish to display for relative links, but the dBcode version does not appear to work. We can easily find the threads where people have posted comments by clicking on the user name, for instance mine is listed at:
http://EvC Forum: RAZD Topic Index -->EvC Forum: RAZD Topic Index Is there a way to do the same thing for threads that people have authored? I usually bookmark mine so I can go back to them, but others might find this kind of list useful for finding an old thread (or just seeing what kinds of things a user authors). compare Fiocruz Genome and fight Muscular Dystrophy with Team EvC! Hey Percy, how about adding "how to quote messages" in the [Your Reply:] box under smilies legend?
Seems to be the most requested coding assistance. compare Fiocruz Genome and fight Muscular Dystrophy with Team EvC! (click) we are limited in our ability to understand by our ability to understand RebelAAmericanOZen[Deist ... to learn ... to think ... to live ... to laugh ... to share.
