there was an earthquake in may 2003 in indonesia,
in 2004 some 200,000 people were killed in a tsunami in indonesia (and thousands elsewhere as well).
there was another quake in december of 2004.
there was another earthquake late last year and another a few months ago.
there was a tsunami and several eathquakes today.
now. indonesia is 88% muslim and the most populous muslim majority nation in the world. however, indonesia has been working with the us against terrorism.
now. are they being punished for being muslim (or some other horrible sin) or are they simply suffering from living in the ring of fire and right next to a very active fault?
um. comparitives maybe. since science is a religion of course.

Clearly it is the US that is being punished for someone having made an abortion.

How timely to talk about the tsunami in Indonesia, it has happened again
less than an hour ago (although not nearly to the degree it did)
Yahoo News on Indonesia tsunami death toll
I don't think it means anything, except that they are in an geologically active part fo the world.
Otherwise, we would have to also talk about the judgement of god against the bible belt states for being in hurricane alley.

There is no doubt that disasters come from the hand of God:
Amos 3:6 ...shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done [it]?
Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these [things].
The current weather disasters everywhere may very well be building up to the end times, as we are seeing the natural disasters and wars and rumors of wars Jesus said would precede His coming.
2Pe 3:3-6 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as [they were] from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
As to WHY the tsunami, we can only speculate, we can't know exactly. There is no such thing as a nation that doesn't deserve judgment. It's all a matter of timing. Scripture seems to teach that judgment comes at a point of accumulated transgressions, often after quite a long period of time, hundreds of years sometimes. When God commanded the Israelites to conquer Canaan, He told them that the transgressions of the Canaanites hadn't yet come to the point of punishment, the "fullness of time." Likewise all the other examples of national transgression and punishment foretold by the prophets, hundreds of years between the prophecy and the fulfillment in some cases. Not always. And there are many prophecies of judgment against the surrounding idolatrous nations as well, all of which are given to teach us how God deals with nations.
So, Indonesia is now mostly Muslim but formerly it was made up of many idolatrous tribes. God knows the causes, we can't. But there is no doubt that He is in charge of every specific circumstance of earthquakes and tsunamis. Nothing escapes Him.

Since God is (supposedly) punishing the U.S. (for not killing gays or whatever), maybe He's punishing Indonesia for supporting the U.S. (Isn't terrorism part of God's judgement too?)

very good point.
however, that would imply that god is using the muslims and that might give them some validity... and we can't have that.

you mean like the wars and rumors of wars that haven't stopped for the last 4000 years? really. that's the weakest part of the whole bit. there has been almost constant war for at least the last 2000 of those. what makes the last ten years any different?

So, all those hurricanes hitting the bible belt of the united states is in retebution. For what?
Global warming?
and also electing George Bush president?
or maybe for claiming all the fictions in the Gospels are true?
God could have gotten tired of all the mendacity amongst the Christians there.
