You have a great opportunity and a real setup to do something original, creative and informative. I hope you take advantage of it.
IIWY, I would try to imagine a Sunday family gathering. It's at an old farmhouse, two story, broad porch surrounding all sides. In the background is a barn and seperate garage. Gathered on the porch are Edward Guymon Junior, ET's son who grew up during the depression and served in WWI. He well remembers the tales his Dad told of before Oklahoma was a State and what it was like to move from Illinois to the Indian Territories.
There is Eddie III, his son who served in WWII and Korea, his son "T-boy" (I have no idea how he got that nickname), your dad who served in Vietnam and lived through the turbulent sixties, and finally you.
The discussion is about current events, things like terrorism and 9-11. The elders are comparing that to what they lived through, what they experienced.
Throw in a few breaks while they throw some of Kim's Ribs on the BBQ, and fix a low-country boil that your grandfather learned about while stationed in Charleston Naval Shipyards and you'll have a great report.
