The accident and death happened almost 3 years ago. I'm pretty sure the issue of whether the soul in question went to heaven or hell had long been settled.

Still it wouldn't hurt to pray for that person. You never know if somthing is going on in the lives of people.

I'm just sayin'. Christian faith: no amount of positive prayer will bring you out of hell and no amount of negative prayer will take you away from heaven. It's pretty much a done deal.

See, I never got that part of the christian doctrine. What's the point of prayer for the dead? You're either in heaven or you're in hell. It's not like Lucifer is going to catapult you up to heaven after a certain number of prayers.

Actually, there are many other reasons to pray for someone departed, just as normal conversation often revolves around the mundane.
