Today, July 8, 2009, at 4 PM I will be taking the board down for the installation of the dBoard 3.0 Beta release software. It should take about 4 hours. Software updates don't usually take this long, but in this case a full backup of the board (all software, messages, member data, etc.) is prudent, and the backup has to occur after it is shut down, otherwise people might post messages to a forum after it's been backed up, and their messages would be lost. The software update also requires translation and insertion of all messages into a MySQL database, and because we have well over a half million messages this will take a couple hours. I will bring the board back up as quickly as possible. There will be many changes, and I expect there will be some bugs, too. Please report issues and problems to this thread. Thanks go out to everyone who helped wring out some of the bugs over at the test board.

Please report issues and problems to this thread. With the old software I noticed a glitch where people would disagree with some of my points. It would be nice to see this fixed.

Good luck on the transfer/update. Also, later, could you describe the sort of computer hardware you are using to do all of this fun stuff with. Sounds like you might have a pretty "gnarly" system.

Installation Postponed till 7 AM Thursday Morning
Folks, sorry about this, but I just don't trust myself to do this right now. The test installation from scratch of all the changes just completed at the test board, but it's just too late in the day to start a 4 hour installation process. I will pick up early tomorrow morning, bringing the board down at 7 AM.

It uglier.... Maybe some thicker borders or something. It looks "thrown together" from an asthetic point of view. ABE: Or maybe if you also center vertically, the forum name and post count. Maybe that will make things line up a little better. Edited by Catholic Scientist, : No reason given.

The borders weren't supposed to be change. Is anyone else noticing a change in the borders? If so, is it color, thickness, both?

Looking through my topic index, it took me a long time to figure out which threads were closed. The little bitty pad-lock at the left was hard to see. I liked how in the previous version it would say: CLOSED CLOSED CLOSED CLOSED All the way across the box with tthe thread title in it.
Also, under the Submit button on this page I see this:

Ah, okay. That page has changed quite a bit. The threads no longer have page numbers. You have to go to the thread itself to select a specific page. The "Unread Messages" indicator is now a folder instead of a blue circle. The "Activity Level" meter is gone, replaced by a red folder color for active threads. If you have any specific suggestions for how to improve the appearance please let me know.

About the old "CLOSED" indicator, this or something fairly similar will be making a comeback at some point. The way it was done before was a hack, and doing it the right way will take some time. Thanks for finding that other problem. I've identified the bug and will be checking in a fix soon.
