Looks like the old-school font wins. The only suggestion that I have that you could do is to give us a wider variety of smilies. (I know that they can be overused and that many people hate them, but I use them occasionally!
I like the :/ smilie in chat, which is not available out here, and I also wish that was available in chat.(rolleyes)

I would absolutely love it if someone could come up with a large and consistent smilie set that is not proprietary.

Smile now Cry later
Proprietary? You mean that those little buggers are patented?
Does that mean that other website forums have to pay for their little legion of emoticons?

It's copyright.

They probably only have to worry if they're reselling them, as would be the case for a discussion board that included a smilie feature like, say, this one!

Hmm. Still in Arial on my browser -- come to think of it, I think that it was in Arial before. Maybe my browser is automatically set up to put it all in Arial.
Not that I'm complaining. It looks fine to me.

Percy,
Unfortunately it's been patented too.....

Ridiculous isn't it. I work for a software company and I HATE software patents (although I'm a pre-sales engineer, not a developer. I only write some python these days)
Maybe this would help you out:
(it's for ichat, but it's GPL)

Re: Smile now Cry later
Thanks for the pointer to the smilie tool. Doc page was empty, do you know if it can create dynamic gifs? And can the smilies be exported from the chat environment? I think it would be wonderful if someone would use it (or anything available) to create a consistent and unique set of emoticons for EvC Forum.
