Creationists believe that the flood happened around 4500 years ago, or around 2500 BC. However, there seems to be a problem. The Egyptians were building pyramids before when the flood supposedly happened, during the flood, and immediately after the flood, when supposedly everyone was dead except for Noah and his family. The Egyptians were building pyramids from 2700 BC until around 50 BC, however, the main era for building pyramids was from 2700 BC until 2350 BC. Wouldn't all of the pyramids older than 2500 BC have been destroyed in an event so devestating as a global flood? How could the pyramids built right after 2500 BC have been built, when everyone was supposed to be dead except for Noah and his family? Why don't the egyptians mention any global flood in their myths and stories? [This message has been edited by EvO-DuDe, 07-27-2002]

I've never seen a date this recent. Usually it is somewhere around 6000 years ago, 4000 bc. The rest of your points still stand though, with a little bit of modification. ------------------

Ummmm.... creationists believe that the earth is six thousand years old. They believe that the flood happened somewhere between 2500 BC - 2300 BC. Well, that's what Answers in Genesis claims anyway.

Well? The creationists don't have a reply? This is very strong evidence that there was not a global flood.

Creationists, this problem will not go away even if you choose to ignore it! It seems to me like the only thing creationists can say was that the Egyptians were big liars about when they built their pyramids and when different pharaohs ruled.

Creationists are not overly dogmatic that the flood was in 2500 to 2300BC but I would normally suppoose those dates. There are mainstream movements to bring forward some of the Egyptian dates a couple of hundred years due to other problems that they have. A tiny bit of wriggling room on both sides can solve the problem. It's interesting, extremely constraining but not a flood killer.

I disagree TB. Bringing forward those dates doesn't eliminate problem of a population developing from Noah's family to one large enough to build the many cultures contemporaneous with the ancient Israelites. ------------------ http://www.hells-handmaiden.com

John We've had a whole thread on that issue recenly. It truly seemed that the issue was very constraining but not impossible for the flood scenario. It depended on assumptions of number of kids and stuff like that. If I'm not mistaken you were involved in the thread (?)

I've been involved in several such debates. All of them have died off now. I put quite a lot of effort into demonstrating that there is quite a bit more than a little constraint going on. I looked up population growth statistics, food supply as effecting reproduction, etc. ------------------ http://www.hells-handmaiden.com

And in the Chinese calander it 4699 years since the reign of the Yellow King (or something like that). The chinese have a history which pre-dates their dating method, and the current years mean that the 4500 years ago flood date must be wrong ... or are the Chinese lying ?

Of course they were lying. Everyone knows that the chinese and the egyptians were big liars and nothing they said should be trusted. *rolls eyes*
