Author | Topic: Make Your Super Bowl Predictions Here | |||||||||||||||||||||||

All,
Well, I will say this: Refereed and coached sports involving games with clear rules are the best model I know for how to live and have a lot of glory, recognition, and fun. So much better than any religion I know, (even the Toronto Blessing!) I really enjoyed the game, but was disgusted with the half-time show, beyond the fact that it provided some sort of contrast. Do God and satan mess with sports? A lot of athletes think so, and I think it arrogant to write off their confidence in this. Do God and satan mess with entertainment? There's an interesting place for some prayer experiments. Open minds, now, OOOOOpppeeeeennnn! Here comes truth, let it in, that's a good boy. I'd make a smiley face, but I don't know how to get them off of the thingy above, down here. Stephen

Now, Stephen, don't blame it all on Satan and his little half-pint demons. The Janet Jackson halftime debauchery can be totally chalked up to her currently sagging career and her eventually sagging "other assets." She was just making the most of an opportunity for self-promotion. And besides, when advertisers pay the kind of bucks they do for Super Bowl seconds, they want an extravaganza that attracts the broadest and most diverse audience ... and that includes puerile peckerheads as well as ancient, ex-hippie perverts like you and me.
Truth in advertising. Peace.

Abshalom,
Speaking of advertising, the only time we quit chattering during the game was during the commercials, which were a riot! Stephen

crashfrog,
It would probably be foolish for me to try to define any demographic of musical preferences for pro football fans. But my guess (and I admit thats all it is) is that if polls were ever taken, that rock n roll would by far be the most popular. I think that rap noise (I just can't call it music) would be far down the list. You can 't just go by today's billboard list and believe that would possibly relate to a cross section of football fans. Personally, I thought last year's halftime show was quite good. I think it was last year when U2 was featured. It may have been a couple of years ago. And for the pop/country folk, I think Shania Twain did a great job very recently too. But you just can't go wrong with rock. Verzem

I think that rap noise (I just can't call it music) would be far down the list. Then you've vastly misunderstood what demographic you're talking about, because a major component of them - maybe most? - will be young and urban. That's not even taking into account how many fans are black, though I would have to be an idiot to try and argue from a stereotype that black people like hip-hop. The sort of guy you're thinking of watches NASCAR, not football. And I think that the fact that you don't like hip-hop is clouding your judgement, here.

crashfrog,
I understand and acknowledge that my distaste for rap influenced my impression of the halftime show. But none of the several people who watched the game with me protested when I muted the sound when the rap came on and I was thanked for doing it. Also, there were many complaints about the quality of the entertainment called in to the radio talk show I listen to, more in fact, than complained about the boob exposure. Also, you may be a tad off with your "young and urban" impression. The urban may be accurate as far as filling up the stadiums, but there it is most likely more of a mature audience due to the high price of tickets. But as for the television audience, I don't think that relates to being an urban demographic at all. But even if it is, it is still my belief that rock n roll would still be more popular by far than rap amongst football fans. Let me ask you, do you think it was a better halftime show than, say, U2 from recent times? Oh, and the NASCAR fans were all rooting for Carolina. And they love their Skynard. Southern rock kicks ass!! Verzem

You are just upset because you hit rewind instead of record on your VCR when Ms. Jackson's assets tumbled into the limelight. Maybe if you pray enough she will show it again?

I just got an online gander at Ms. Jackson's over-exposed right, tight tahtah. Mammy, I think Stephen has a valid point. There on the very tip of the tat is what appears to be a minature, golden UFO securely docked on Space Station Aeriola.
I enlarged and enhanced the object until I was able to see tiny portals from which miniture aliens are peering, some with a devilish gleam in their milky eyes. I don't believe these are friendly fellows, and from the look on Ms. Jackson's face, they are causing her significant physical and spiritual distress. Additionally, I might mention that in the same picture, Justin Timberlake, accompanying Janet in the duet, looks as if he just released a demonic effluence of highly sulfuric flatulence ... further proof of the obvious satanic influence that guided the entire event. Check it out for yourself[WARNING: Parental Guidance Highly Recommended]: http://us.news1.yimg.com/.../rids/20040202/i/r2794264459.jpg "Much to do about next to nothing" Peace in Pop [This message has been edited by Abshalom, 02-04-2004]

To confirm your results, I prayed agnostically AND atheistically to Ron Jeremy, the patron saint of Aeriola. I will anecdotally inform you that he told me that in fact, the ship was there to contain the demons within Ms. Jackson's breast. He also told me that he wrote the script for Tits a Wonderful Life but was never given credit..but that is another story. I cannot accept your evidence regarding Justin Timberlake as he always looks that way. However, he did perform in a video where he defies the law of gravity and sang in a horrible falsetto which clearly demonstrates demonic possession.
And all this time we thought Stephen was just a strange nutbag. I will now go and visit my local video store..the one with the blackend windows and the No One Under 18 Allowed sign on the door and offer my agnostic prayers and penance to the mighty Jeremy.

One of the posters in this forum has a website, reporting evidence that 10 minutes looking at a naked woman's breast is equivalent, in terms of immune-system health, I think, to a half-hour in the sun. So, my frustration (it's true, I was up getting a beer) at missing the event was justified. And doubtless created some of my subjective response. But, it was not just my empty glass that got me up, soooo. But Abshalom was an answer to my prayers! S.
