Re: ddl file
OK, I finally got around to downloading the ddl file (in zip form).
Doing a *.ddl search of my computer seems to indicate I have no ddl files on it. Where should I install the new file?
Running Windows 98 Second Edition

Re: ddl file
Look for dll, not ddl.
I'd start with putting it in system32.

Firefox critical update - Won't install for me
Firefox sent me a notice that a critical update was available.
I twice downloaded the update (apparently a new version (1.03) and not just some sort of patch), but both times it failed to install.
Anyone know about this?

Opera
What's wrong with Opera? I like Opera. Never tried Firefox, though a bunch of my friends have it.

Opera's nice; shame that it's adware though. I prefer konqueror myself.

The best part about firefox is if you click outside a text box and just start typing, it will automaticly do a word find for you. I found this very helpful when looking for specific info while on wikipedia and for checking other people's sources.
you do have to keep IE installed though, for some reason microsoft run sites won't work in any other browser I wonder why? : P

Re: Firefox critical update - Won't install for me - BUMP
Anyone else having updating problems?
Do I need to update to version 1.01, then 1.02, then 1.03, instead of 1.00 directly to 1.03?

ie
And why is Rrhain apparently still using IE?
i use ie. i know it's got its issues, and i'm aware of most of them. but i have two really good reasons.
1. integration. it runs like part of my operating system, because it is. my skin (boring though it may be) crosses over just fine, and everything looks nice. what's more is that it seems to run faster for me. my computer is an old p-o-s, and the lighter a program is, the better it runs. (this is also the reason i'm still running winamp 2) mozilla browsers (even firefox) seem a little heavy and sluggish on my machine, no matter what the official tests say.
2. it works right. i sort of approach it from a web-designer attitude. when i make up some html of css, it always comes out exactly how i want it to work in ie. but i have to fight it in netscape/mozilla/firefox, and opera. granted, they've gotten better (netscape's gotten ALOT better. it used to do some real wacky shit on me). i get the occasional ie crash, sure. but netscape has been known to lock up my system, and i broke firefox within the first 15 minutes. opera i just never liked.
firefox does have a lot features that are VERY useful. some of which have been added to the new ie that i don't have. tabbed browsing, pop-up blocking, etc. i especially like the open-ended part of it. people can design their own plugins. as a platform, it was pretty close to what i like. so i'm gonna give it another go in a while. see if i can make it work in a way i like.

I'm interested to know what you mean here. Firefox is more compliant with XHTML, XML, CSS standards than Internet Explorer. I'd expect a web-developer to follow these standards. If something renders "correctly" in IE, and does not in Firefox, then this is a good indication that the designer has not followed these standards.

Avant is nice. I keep IE, Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape, Maxthon, Avant and Opera on my desktop to use in testing web pages. Of those, I would say Avant is probably my second choice.

But, yeah. I got tired of IE installing spyware without asking me.
I recommend ubuntu linux system. It takes a great amount of effort to install anything, and because of that it is impossible for any spyware or virus to be any kind of a threat.
