He will probably find the answers and make 2nd half adjustments. He was supposed to do that after 9/11. That's what prompted the creation of the Department of Homeland Security and later, the National Response Plan. The question is not "why did this sort of response happen", but "why did this sort of response happen again?"

I bet that if there were someone to bomb, then the administration would have been right on that. How dare you belittle our War on Weather! Why on Earth do you hate our troops so much?

and the made up Koran flushing story? You didn't hear? Those stories turned out to be absolutely true.

Do you have a source? The government's own investigations.
They were absolutely FALSE!!! No, they turned out to be true.
The story was retracted. Newsweek had to retract the story because that story was based soley on the claim of a single source; when the source recanted they had no choice but to retract. On the other hand, the government's own survey of its detention centers, unrelated to the claims of the Newsweek source, uncovered not only credible reports of Koran abuse, but several homocides during interrogation and, among other things, a guard urinating on a prisoner. Now, flushing books and urination is uncouth but not, to my mind, something to get worked up over. On the other hand, over 30 homocides by American personnel during interrogations makes me sit up and take notice. How about you?

So you can only imagine the emotional train wrecks out there who have chossen the combination platter of these sexual practices. You mean like my wife and I? Emotional train wrecks, huh? We're in our second year of happy marriage despite neither of us being the other's only ever sex partner. We both have steady jobs, she's working on an advanced degree, we're paying the rent, paying off loans, and saving up. Somehow, what you're saying doesn't quite add up, as far as I can tell.

did you expect him to stand up in front a gradeschool class and say "i have to go, the country is under attack" ? I don't know if you remember, but that's what he did. His first media appearance after the attack was him, right there in the school with the children, saying "we have been attacked."
we know the sort of intelligence this guy has. would rather him commanding the military, or reading to school children? I repudiate Bush's leadership because of what he does. If he were the kind of guy that sprang into action to lead a military response - keeping in mind that there were still two planes in the air - he'd probably be the kind of leader I wouldn't mind in charge of the military. Instead we have a guy who sits around and waits - for seven minutes, for five days - for someone to tell him what to do. This message has been edited by crashfrog, 09-08-2005 09:04 PM

Good post. Not to mention that we already know now that, by the time Bush made his phone call, the evacuation had already been ordered by the state authorities.
Once again Tal falls for the Rovian spin machine hook, line, and sinker.

The anti-minimum wagers point out that that it lowers employment rates and drives costs up for everybody...to the point where increased minimum wages means an increase in costs to the consumer, so the cost of living increases, negating the point of having minimum wages. Right, but they've never been able to present any data to that effect, as far as I've seen. On the other hand the other side can point to a significant body of data that suggests that increasing the minimum wage actually drives profits up. Mostly, the anti-wage crowd seems to make the crucial blunder of forgetting that, at most places that pay the min wage, the employee is also generally the consumer - people who work at McDonalds usually eat at McDonalds, or places like them. If you pay a pizza delivery boy more, he usually spends it on pizzas.

I will only note, as I said in the other thread, that it was the Reps which created the atmosphere which prevented anyone (dem or rep) from initiating massive spending projects. I wasn't sure when Monk said it, and now I'm puzzled because you seem to agree - exactly what is this "atmosphere" that you guys are talking about? The only atmosphere I can discern in Congress right now is an atmosphere that rubber-stamps any profligate spending increase that the President asks for. "Wasn't going to happen?" The political reality is that if Bush had asked for it, Congress would have bent over backwards to deliver it. It's not like they act like they're going to run out of money or something.

So what does it say of democrats that a very forgetful moron runs political rings around them again and again? What rings? Two narrow election victories, likely fraudulent? A lower approval rating than even Nixon had? His own party stabbing him in the back on the Dubai ports business? Failed Social Security "reform"? Civil war in Iraq? Massive budget overruns? Profligate expansion of government? Republicans are going to lose Congress in either the next election or the one after that; any presidential candidate the Republicans field who is connected with Bush and his policies will lose. When the Democrats take over and investigate the past two presidental elections and find the Republican victories fraudulent, that's going to be a legal basis for the summary dismissal of Bush's judicial appointees from the courts.

You really don't pay attention do you? You really don't have any argument but name-calling, do you?

And how much fun would that be? Oh, I'd gladly give up arguing with know-nothing conservatives if it meant I could be sure that minorities would have equal rights, people weren't going to blow up a nuke in times square, my kids could get a real science education, and stupid religious nonsense would stay in the church where it belongs instead of in the courthouse. Sounds like way more fun to me.
