Re: Charlie Kirk, Conservative Activist 31
Charlie Kirk did not deserve to be shot and murdered.
Nobody does.
He *was* loathsome and a stain on American political discourse.
His death was ironic, in that he's well known for specifically saying that Americans should accept that a number of innocent people (including children) will die to gun violence, because that's the price of the 2nd Amendment.
He died on the same day that there was another school shooting.
The death of a political hatemonger who advocated against women and minorities will overshadow the violence against literal children on the same day.
He didn't deserve to be shot. Nobody deserves to be murdered.
But he was loathsome, and I won't be mourning him.

Re: Charlie Kirk, Conservative Activist 31
If you don't think Charlie Kirk was loathsome, then you haven't been paying attention or listened to the hate he spews on a regular basis. He's the definition of loathsome.

In this moderator's opinion, this thread is for celebrating the lives of those who have recently left us. This is not the place for downvotes. If you can't maintain at least a neutral stance it might be best to say nothing at all.

Re: Moderator Request
Sorry, but I respectively disagree. If people post about vile people you can't expect people to be silent about them celebrating their lives. Charlie Kirk didn't deserve to be assassinated but he doesn't deserve to be lauded either.

Re: Moderator Request
I truly hope that you don't expect anyone to remain "neutral" when Donald Trump, aka Adolf Hitler II, finally kicks it.
Respectfully, I will not remain "neutral" about abhorrent people just because they've died.
If you want celebrations, then restrict posting to non-controversial individuals who everyone agrees were a net benefit to humanity.
When people who advocate for the deaths of minorities , the subjugation of women, or the supremacy of a single religion die, I won't pretend to be "neutral."

In this moderator's opinion, this thread is for celebrating the lives of those who have recently left us.
There is nothing to celebrate in this one.
He advocated violence against humans because he didn't like their looks or thoughts. He advocated gun violence in society. He preached school shootings and dead 8 year-olds as necessary for the Second Amendment to exist.
He was a socially violent anti-human gun nut and someone shot him dead. So be it.
If this thread continues, please understand moderator or no, an entry in this topic is an invite to examine the full life of the subject. If this is not your intent then maybe you should close this topic.

Re: Moderator Request
The title of this thread is Tribute Thread for the Recently Passed Greats. When someone is not, in your opinion, a "great", and you're not offering a tribute, then this is not the proper thread. I 've been consistent about this over the years, see my old posts.

Re: Moderator Request
Percy, the problem with this is that normal people may disagree about who is great but in the current time it appears that Hitler himself would be lauded in this thread and you expect no negative responses. Kirk was not great and doesn't deserve to receive respect in this forum.

Any position on Kirk is valid for discussion in this forum, but individual threads have their own topics. This one is a tribute thread for greats. There are other threads where the role Kirk played in conservative politics can be characterized, labeled, and discussed. For example, Kirk is being discussed in the The Second Trump Presidency thread right now, and I just opened the Condemnation Thread for Recently Passed Reprobates thread.
This tribute thread was also never imagined as one for discussion, just a place to note one's thoughts on someone's passing, in the way that people rise at a memorial to say a few words about the departed.

Re: Robert Redford, 89
I remember him much younger in The Sting with Paul Newman. He sure could run fast!
That movie also had Robert Shaw in it. He was the one who got stung.

Should edit to add Dr. She deserves the dignity of her title.
