Re: tipping the wink
I don't know. Some people have good troll radars. But there has been a string of suspensions that IMO aren't troll related.
I just can't stand people who have poor skills trying to argue that everyone else is actually one person.
Seriously! take responsibility for your own terrible arguments!
*sigh* Wishful thinking on my part.

Re: tipping the wink
i dunno either really. if there's something i feel i can add no value at all by saying i just say nothing.
for instance, i know I'm not very liked by phat or molbiogirl, and some of there replies to me have been pretty..uh..aggressive.
but i hold nothing against them. the topics here are very very touchy in the hearts and minds of people. but i feel its important to have the debates to clarify beliefs or further understanding in such important issues. i love absorbing information that my heart can accept as truth. but i can only absorb as fast as i can learn. this site has been a fountain of information from scientists and common folks alike, because its all real. real hearts. real views. real life. and i value all life.
ill forgive anyone who trolls me, but in the spirit of not invoking anger or hurt to the person i may be speaking too, i try to be as cordial as possible with the sensitivity of the issues on the human mind and emotion.
i would certainly not be able to do any job that would be enforcement of trolling issues, because of my nature.

Hi tesla,
i love absorbing information that my heart can accept as truth.
I mean no disrespect, but I would strongly advise that in future, you absorb information that your brain can accept. Judging new information on the basis of your emotional response to it is very unreliable. It leads to easily to wish thinking and errors.
Judging from your posts in general, I would strongly advise you to be a little more coldly empirical about the way you absorb your information.

Re: tipping the wink
I'm not the one with the emotional issues per say. I'm human. i can have emotions. but i debate pretty Cooley comparative to others i have debated with.
heart can accept as truth explained:
if you accept something in your mind, but have doubt in your heart, you have not accepted it as truth in reality.
if you want to believe something in your heart, but your mind rejects it, then you do not believe.
but what you believe in heart , and in mind, that is true to you.

Whats The Difference?
Great topic, RAZD...though an old one. Concerning trolls....do you think they are just bored on the internet and get a kick out of being pests?
Do they crave attention or do they simply like watching other people get angry at them?
Should administrators ban them immediately or should we encourage them to go to Troll Recovery Group and learn how to get along with others?

Chance as a real force is a myth. It has no basis in reality and no place in scientific inquiry. For science and philosophy to continue to advance in knowledge, chance must be demythologized once and for all. —RC Sproul

From Wiki:
Crank (person) - Wikipedia
"Crank" is a pejorative term used for a person who holds an unshakable belief that most of his or her contemporaries consider to be false.[1] A crank belief is so wildly at variance with those commonly held as to be considered ludicrous. Cranks characteristically dismiss all evidence or arguments which contradict their own unconventional beliefs, making any rational debate a futile task and rendering them impervious to facts, evidence, and rational inference.
Common synonyms for "crank" include crackpot and kook. ...
I'd venture to guess that we're dealing with a crank, but I suppose sometimes it could be a mix of both traits.

Religious belief does not constitute scientific evidence, nor does it convey scientific knowledge.
Belief gets in the way of learning--Robert A. Heinlein
In the name of diversity, college student demands to be kept in ignorance of the culture that made diversity a value--StultisTheFool
It's not what we don't know that hurts, it's what we know that ain't so--Will Rogers
If I am entitled to something, someone else is obliged to pay--Jerry Pournelle
If a religion's teachings are true, then it should have nothing to fear from science...--dwise1
"Multiculturalism" demands that the US be tolerant of everything except its own past, culture, traditions, and identity.
Liberals claim to want to give a hearing to other views, but then are shocked and offended to discover that there are other points of view--William F. Buckley Jr.

Don't know what motivates them.
I agree with Coyote that crank is more likely, given the amount of effort he has put into creating is wiki pages to use for external support, building his own microcosm.
There might be an element of cognitive dissonance here, where the lack of external support is compensated by building this false microcosm as a cocoon provides refuge from reality. Like someone having their own blog to spread their word and where they control what facts are used and what facts are ignored.
Curiously, I was also thinking Loony Of The Week would be appropriate.
Enjoy
