People are strange
sorry, couldn't resist
The Doors writes:

No one remembers your name
When you're strange

A joint letter to messenjah and prophex
Charlie:2006 writes:
Long ago I decided to give my life to search of knowledge. To the understanding of God. To truth. Salvation is a common term for it.
Indeed. I have much love for both of you, even though you are at times arrogant acting, naive to the world around you, full of head knowledge and excitement at growing up, yet so limited in your actual experience of the world and of interactions with people.
I can say this to both of you because I remember how I was at 18. I was so optimistic! Don't let the older advisors discourage you from having unbounded youthful optimism. I think that you guys intrinsically know that you have a lot to learn, yet you feel that it is nobodies business to inform you of this fact. You always have been a bit stubborn! There is a saying, though. Those who don't stand for something will fall for anything.
To Wit:
Charlie:2003 writes:
I have alerted all of you of where I stand. If it seems harsh, it isn't meant to be most of the time. I am sorry if you see me as a bad Christian, but I don't know how you would know what a good one is. What you call reason on most topics I call blasphemy, I have said it before, we are polarized in our beliefs, there is no way that you can "reason" with me on most subjects. You may see this as ignorance, stubborness, hard-headedness. I don't.
Flashback 2003! Do you still look at the Bible as an inerrent book, Charlie? Let me tell you what I believe. I believe that the character of the Bible---the whole reason that it was written---is because Jesus Christ (as Gods character and essence) was meant to supernaturally and bluntly interact with humanity.
Charlie:2006 writes:
There will come a time when this forum might not exist, and when the oldies here are long gone, and when the younger crowd is as old as they were. The contribution that has been made to the individuals who post here is really something special.
Thats why I am taking the time to compile this one post and to let you and Chris know how much I remember you and your contributions to EvC. Some of the writing here at EvC is heartfelt. Jar has taught me so much about an alternate way of looking at beliefs. I used to fight him because I saw his version of Christianity as so liberal. I watched the atheists attack the Bible and attempt to dismantle it from its place as the Word of God down to a book of myths and unexplainable miracles. So did you.
Charlie:2003 writes:
I believe in what the Bible says, because it's the word of God.
You ask why I think it's the word of God? Because I was touched by the Holy Spirit a long time ago.
Charlie:2003 writes:
At least recognize the part of the Bible that shows instructions and teachings (if you don't believe the "stories" of the bible) of love and how to treat others.
You are not so dogmatic as you were back then---and I think that you should never fear losing your salvation by questioning the Bible, evolution, and the possibility that evolution may be a fact and the Bible may not be innerrent.
While you were the zealous young creationist fundie, look at what Chris was doing back in 2003!
messenjah:2003 writes:
Ah, stayed up all night watching the yankees game, When Boone hit that homerun it made my day. Hey, and on the videogames topic, don't they have most of the super nintendo games on gameboy advance? Like Supermario? Zelda: four swords is cool. Fifa 2004 ps2 got to get that when it comes out.
This world of trinkets, games, sports, and diversions can appear to be so meaningless when compared to the great truths. Chris, I could get in a philosophical discussion with you, but im too tired and lazy to look anything up to discuss. Please understand my oldtime hardheadedness. I still want to communicate, but I realize that you guys have a busy year ahead of you. You know where to find me and how to get ahold of me, though. I'll let you contact me---just so nobody trips out!
Omnivorous has taught me that an individual can have a life that is rich with experiences and that even a hurt child can grow up to have profound wisdom and value in life.
Charlie:2006 writes:
I've been here a long time posting, used to make topics with answers and genesis copy and pastes, and evidence from Dr. Hovind. Prophecyexclaimed, and Iron Man were my old names. But yeah, crazy stuff.
Was that not Answers In Genesis, Charlie? Its fun to look at old posts that I made as well. You appear to have been zapped hard with the Holy Spirit when you were younger!
Charlie:2003 writes:
I accepted Christ when I was 9 at a Bible camp way upstate in New York. Then through the years of going to camp, I was given all the answers I have ever needed in life. I learned about Creation. It changed my life, I actually started to love what I believed more then ever.
Ahhh, the age of innocence---and yet----so much wisdom for a young lad! I was much the same way. The difference between me and you, Charlie--is that you got saved at 9 and I got saved at 32.
Charlie2003 writes:
I do not believe that there is such a thing as an "Old Earth Creationist"... How is that title logical? The scripture clearly says the Geneology and ages of the people in the Bible, Adding shows you the age of the Earth. That in my mind is the reason God gave us the geneology in the Bible, to tell us the age of the Earth!
How do you call yourself a Creationist then, if a Creationist relies on the WORD OF GOD and Science. Just an annoyance that is bothering me greatly and lacks logic.
I am a Creationist (a "C" I guess) I believe that the Universe is young, around 6000 years old. I believe in Creation obviously, 6 days.
Looking back, I observe that Charlie was the one who had appeared to have gotten infused with the Holy Spirit, while Chris was more philosophical.... God gave Charlie the obvious answer while He gave Chris a desire to find the ultimate questions.
I dont know why I have held such an interest in you two! There are certainly many teenagers that are easier to relate to! In addition, I apologize for freaking you out by asking you to call me on the phone. In retrospect, I can see how that would raise more than a few eyebrows. Honestly, I was just bored one day and I wanted someone to talk to. I need to let God direct my relationships, though. For now, lets just say that you guys are spiritually adopted!

Phat, where do you detect this "unbound optimism" in the boys' posts?
Sneering derision is not optimism.

Maybe im the optimist! I think that Charlie is going to always be an optimist due to his early encounter with the Holy Spirit. I realize that the observer of the posts would conclude that the boys are cynical, particularly messenjah. Nevertheless, I remain optimistic that these teens are as unique as you or I. Nobody is typical, really.
I really like that Ned Flanders quote, by the way!

people are strange
It has been said that man is a rational animal. All my life I have been searching for evidence which could support this.
- Bertrand Russell
Crazy
I remember when, I remember,
I remember when I lost my mind
There was something so pleasant about that place.
Even your emotions had an echo
In so much space
And when you're out there
Without care,
Yeah, I was out of touch
But it wasn't because I didn't know enough
I just knew too much
Does that make me crazy
Does that make me crazy
Does that make me crazy
Probably
And I hope that you are having the time of your life
But think twice, that's my only advice
Come on now, who do you, who do you, who do you,
Who do you think you are?
Ha ha ha - bless your soul
You really think you're in control
Well, I think you're crazy
I think you're crazy
I think you're crazy
Just like me
My heroes had the heart to
Lose their lives out on a limb
And all I remember is thinking, I want to be like them
Ever since I was little, ever since I was little
It looked like fun
And it's no coincidence I've come
And I can die when I'm done
Maybe I'm crazy
Maybe you're crazy
Maybe we're crazy
Probably
- Gnarls Barkley
What a waste it is to lose one's mind, or not to have a mind.
How true that is.
- Dan Quayle

Re: people are strange
It seems to me Russell also said, in the same sense, that he was searching for "certainty" all this life. His life, without (true) freedom seems not to be able to even "think" this, so B.R. SAID it, but post-"speech acts" (Derrida etc) we might be able to blink, verily near to a more certain retention than the comparison of his sayings (Russell's) gains.

Re: people are strange
Brad,
Thank you. I take your point about Derrida.
'Speech Acts' Introduction
Parasitic Speech Acts: Austin, Searle, Derrida - Kevin Halion
I guess this is a rather 'parasitic' thread, too, given all the song quotes!
And on that subject, here's a little number by Laurie Anderson.
Language is a Virus
Paradise
Is exactly like
Where you are right now
Only much much
Better.
I saw this guy on the train
And he seemed to have gotten stuck
In one of those abstract trances.
And he was going: "Ugh . . . Ugh . . . Ugh . . . "
And Fred said:
I think he's in some kind of pain. I think it's a pain cry.
And I said: "Pain cry?
Then language is a virus."
Language! It's a virus!
Language! It's a virus!
Well I was talking to a friend
And I was saying:
I wanted you.
And I was looking for you.
But I couldn't find you. I couldn't find you.
And he said: Hey!
Are you talking to me?
Or are you just practicing
For one of those performances of yours?
Huh?
Language! It's a virus!
Language! It's a virus!
He said: I had to write that letter to your mother
And I had to tell the judge that it was you.
And I had to sell the car and go to Florida.
Because that's just my way of saying (It's a charm.)
That I love you. And I (It's a job.)
Had to call you at the crack of dawn (Why?)
And list the times that I've been wrong.
'Cause that's just my way of saying
That I'm sorry. (It's a job.)
Language! It's a virus!
Language! It's a virus!
Paradise
Is exactly like
Where you are right now
Only much much (It's a shipwreck)
Better. (It's a job.)
You know? I don't believe there's such
a thing as TV. I mean -
They just keep showing you
The same pictures over ond over.
And when they talk they just make sounds
That more or less synch up
With their lips.
That's what I think!
Language! It's a virus!
Language! It's a virus!
Language! It's a virus!
Well I dreamed there was an island
That rose up from the sea.
And everybody on the island
Was somebody from TV.
And there was a beautiful view
But nobody could see.
Cause everybody on the island
Was saying: Look at me! Look at me!
Look at me! Look at me! Why?
Paradise
Is exactly like
Where you are right now
Only much much
Better.
-Laurie Anderson

Woke up this morning with a wine glass in my hand
Whose wine, what wine, where the hell did I dine?
Must have been a dream I don’t believe where I’ve been
Come on - you wanna do it again?
Do you, you feel like I do?
Do you, you feel like I do?
My friend got busted just the other day
They said don’t walk, don’t walk, don’t walk away
He drove into a taxi bent the boot hit the back
Had to play some music otherwise he’d crack
Do you, you feel like I do?
Do you, you feel like I do?
Champagne for breakfast and a sherman in my hand
***** top, ***** tails - never fails

Re: people are strange in what they dont do
In the case of "freedom" related to any subject of EVC that deals with ALL OF EVOLUTION it is not me nor Robin who is to channel it.
Gould triplicated (1993-2000(1))(see blue "thumbnail polish" (later tripled again conceptually in 2002)) Kant and so enables one to use Kant's notion of freedom, say, as proper to some thread on EvC.

swan songs
Well, it's been fun, kids. Thanks for the music and the memories.
Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars.
'The Beat Goes On'
- Britney Spears
Drums keep pounding rhythm to the brain
La-dee-da-dee-dee
La-dee-da-dee-da
Wait till you have reached the age - blah blah
History has turned the page - blah blah
We still want to hear a brand new thing -uh huh
We still need a song to sing - uh huh
And the beat goes on
And the beat goes on
And the beat goes on
And the beat goes on
And the beat goes on
And the beat goes on
Drums keep pounding rhythm to the brain
La-dee-da-dee-dee
La-dee-da-dee-da
Love is a thirsting, lasting on our minds
From tomorrow until the end of time
And the beat goes on
And the beat goes on
And the beat goes on
And the beat goes on
And the beat goes
And the beat goes
And the beat goes on
Drums keep pounding rhythm to the brain
La-dee-da-dee-dee
La-dee-da-dee-da
We still move to a rhythm just like this
We still dream of sharing our first kiss
And the beat goes on
And the beat goes on
And the beat goes on
And the beat goes on
Drums keep pounding rhythm to the brain
La-dee-da-dee-dee
La-dee-da-dee-da
Well our kids are turning faster everyday (everyday)
We still want to dance the night away
And the beat goes on
And the beat goes on
And the beat goes on
And the beat goes on
And the beat goes on...

The Donkey-Headed Adversary of Humanity Opens the Discussion
The Donkey-Headed Adversary of Humanity opens the Book
The Donkey-Headed Adversary of Humanity opens the Discussion
I am the adversary and must remain the adversary.
I am not yours to embrace. I am not yours to invoke.
The Donkey-Headed Adversary of Humanity sleeps in the hall
Watching for signs of our imminent demise in the scratchings on the wall.
The Donkey-Headed Adversary of Humanity sleeps in the park
Listens for sounds of our eminent decay in the singing of a solitary lark.
Mankind is a plague. Breathing hell into every corner of the rotting earth.
Even now in this our finest hour I feel the hate of every stone tree & flower.
Even now we fall under the long shadow of the donkey's ears
Even now we listen for the slow grinding of the donkey's teeth
Lalala we weep in the din of the stomping of the donkey's black hoof
Lalala we weep for the for the slow coming of the dance of our doom
Eaters of the soil take us into the ground
Death by worm
Eaters of the air drive us from the blue
Death by sparrow
Eaters of the sea take us into the green
Death by eel
Eaters of the scraps take us in our beds
Death by dog
Eaters of the soil take us into the ground
Death by sand
Eaters of the air drive us from the sky
Death by flower
Eaters of the green take us into the sea
Death by water
Eaters of the scraps take us in our beds
Death by stone
Death by silence
Death by sorrow
