Re: Strong Coffee or an overactive Java outlet?
I said that individualism is a hallmark of Western societies. You said:

I dont make things up out of thin air, Malachi! (Well...not usually! ) I got it out of my college sociology book.

Re: Strong Coffee or an overactive Java outlet?
Thanks for your honesty, Phat.
May I respectfully suggest you think about our conversation from your own perspective and personal observations of western societies (world-wide for that matter)? You might possibly be surprised. Your own truth might differ from what books would have us to believe.
Remember the stirring words spoken by John F Kennedy at his inauguration in 1961?
“And so, my fellow Americans; ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country. My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man."
To paraphrase President Kennedy: My fellow citizens; ask not what our mother Earth can do for us - ask what we can do to nourish and sustain our mother. My brothers and sisters: ask not how you can enrich yourselves, but what you can do to enrich all forms of life from our mother Earth.

Malachi, did you ever read George Carlins comedy bit about "saving the planet"?
Its a semi serious look at the future of humanity!

Saving the Plant
No. I'll check it out. Did you read my reply #36 to you in Philosophy of Ideas?
