Now, I am not the kind of guy that is brought to tears very easily. That said, this following youtube vid brought tears to my eyes. We're both very happy for the people in the video.
Considering the fact that the christian bigots were able to rally 60% of the Cali voters to vote for the gay marriage ban referendum, I'm pretty sure they'll be able to summon up the force of bigotry again in november. I'm just happy for the moment and I'm pretty sure the people in the vid are also just happy for the moment.

I'm trying to see things your way, but I can't put my head that far up my ass.

Gay pride on any level
My hamster, Johanna, is very fond of my backyard squirrel, Judy. Johanna says they want to get married. But where? They are both females. That’s not normally allowed. Well, now there’s hope for them in California. They’re letting human females do it down there, so why not other animals? Hey, we’re all mammals, you know. And Johanna is perfectly happy to let Judy play the alpha role. But they’re limited in how much marriage consummation they can accomplish, given the obvious problem with incompatible equipment. But that's OK, they still love each other anyway.
I'm all for love. So why not same-sex mammal marriages? Where’s the victim in that?

Look, I've been cultivating this anti-Americanism for a few years now (war-mongering Christian fundamentalist ozone-eaters) then you go and do something like this. Now I'm going to have to revise all of my racial stereotypes! Damn inconsiderate yanks.

Re: Gay pride on any level
Wow, you have a sentient hamster AND a sentient squirral??? Why shouldn't they get it together - there can't be many of their type around.
Believe me, if Zira turned up from the future, and I managed to remove Cornelius from the picture, I'd be courting her, oh yes. Is that wrong? Sadly I'm not gay, but if I was, well, Cornelius is a damn fine fellow (as is Roddy McDowell I should add)
ABE - mmmm, HBC played Zira in the remake... mmmm, HBC
Edited by cavediver, : Apparently it's Zira, not Zera...

Re: Gay pride on any level
Just to add, how many cases of bestiality can you count in Star Trek (all series)? And how many complaints did the TV studios receive about these cases of bestiality? And just for fun, how many cases of gay bestiality? (though I admit, in some cases it can damn confusing determining a particular sex, eg Dax)
Or does the 'beast' in 'bestiality' implicitly exclude sentience?

Hysterical parody of the moronic arguments trotted out to oppose gay marriage, HM!

Speaking as a trekkie, I can tell you that star trek is one of the most anti-gay shows ever existed.

Re: Gay pride on any level
Really? Can't say I've noticed, but then the only show I every watched in any detail was STNG (STOS was my childhood), and I spent most of my time foaming at the 'science'. So ant-gay while quite happy with the inter-species lovin'... interesting.
I'm actually having fun with this idea - we have never really batted an eyelid at inter-species relationships, as long as it is between two sentient consenting beings, sometimes with considerably differing physiology (e.g. Galaxy Quest) Yet, make the two beings the same species and the same sex, and all hell breaks loose. What gives?

The elephant in the room

But why should California or any other governmental entity sanction "marriage" at all? Why shouldn't governments attend to the matter of civil unions and get out out of the "marriage" business? Let the churches, casinos, love shacks, and animals shelters take care care of that.
The elephant in the room is the fact that "gay marriage" is a only a device used by gays to annoy people for the sake of coming of the closet. If it were not the gays would be perfectly happy to be civilly united.

Quite right.
It's just like them coloreds back in the day, demanding to go to the same school as whites, when the schools they were sent to were just as good.

Re: The elephant in the room
Civil marriage is a contract. The duties of party A can be fulfilled by either a male or female, and the same with the duties of party B. A can not be distinguished from B. There is nothing, excepting your expectations, that two males or two females can not fulfill.
The question that leaves me is: As you are not party to the contract: what is your compelling interest that deserves consideration by the State of California or the federal government? If I want to sign a purchase and sales agreement with my neighbor do I need to consult you?
The elephant in the room is the fact that "gay marriage" is a only a device used by gays to annoy people for the sake of coming of the closet. If it were not the gays would be perfectly happy to be civilly united.
Sorry to break it to you pal, but I don’t think gay folks give you too much thought. They were more likely thinking something along the lines of, “I’m an American citizen; why should I not be free to pursue happiness?” Do straight couples get married to make you happy? Or aren’t they thinking about you either?
And why do you think gay people would be happy to be second class citizens with the civil union if it didn’t cheese you off for them to be equals?
Seeing two guys kissings gives me the heebie-jeebies, but so does watching someone eat a tomato as if it were an apple. But I’ll take the heebie-jeebies any day over the feeling I get when I’ve got a government that thinks it has that power over peoples lives to make illegal their peaceful desires.
