People are here to debate. You don't debate by saying "trust me, I have a PhD..." They present evidence, published peer-reviewed articles, etc. This is why you will not find many to admit that they are actually real live physicists or biologists or chemists or etc.
If you read people's posts carefully, sometimes you will notice that some do let it slip out that they are PhD geneticists, physicists, etc. However, the best way to tell is to look at how they consistantly present their arguments and support for their arguments.
For example, Eta is a theoretical physicist here. Before he admitted to being one, there were already many members of this forum that noticed that there was something funny about this guy and the field of physics. Pinky is another example.
So no, I doubt that many people will come out and tell you what their field of expertise are. Here in EvC-land, we value evidence based arguments more than reference to authority.
Hope that helps.
Added by edit.
The point is you could be anyone or anything to debate on this forum. People here are judged by the content of their arguments and not by their title. Look at jar. He's an ape in a zoo but many of us here respect him because of his knowledge in theology.
Added by edit again.
Mammuthus is one of our more famous scientists on this board. If you ever going to get into an argument with him, make sure you have 10 years worth of scientific data to back your claims up. Mammuth is famous for giving you extensive lists of peer reviewed published scientific articles and long lists of scientific data to back up his arguments.
Moose has a "background" in the field of geology.

PhD in organic chemistry, Ohio State, 1979. No published works of any consequence other than patents. My current field of expertise has almost nothing to do with grad school's chemistry - it's all on-the-job training plus just general chemistry knowledge.
Added by edit: my total formal biology training was required introductory biology, taken about 1970.

Thanks for the reply Coragyps, that's an interesting field of work.
Jacen, not sure if this topic offended you. I am merely asking out of curiosity because it's interesting. I don't think a PhD or a published novel is something to be ashamed of, do you? I also do not think that just because you have a PhD you are correct, many people have many opinions that they hold true to no matter what, it's simply the perserverence effect.

Don't worry. I'm not offended. I'm just telling you how to spot a scientist beside asking them.
Of course it's not something to be ashamed about. But it's not something that, if you have one, you write on your forehead for everyone to see.
And by the way, use the reply button with that green thingy (it used to be a button with a red arrow until Percy changed it) right under the post that you are replying to. It helps the rest of us keep track of what's what and whatnot. The general reply button is a no-no, unless you are not replying to anyone in specific.

It's because I'm god and I can do anything I want.
Just joking.

The bastard went for a younger guy
But seriously, it never became anything serious. Besides, my new goal now is to rebuild Troy, launch an attack on Greece, and kill every man, woman, child, and animal. I can blame it on god afterwards.

Then you should call yourself "Hector" or "Aneas."

I meant to say this earlier but forgot.
The reason I posted messages 2 and 4 is because I was hoping that visiters would see them and realize what kind of people are here before embarrassing themselves.
We regularly get new posters that think they can stump the scientific world or pretend to be a scientist by citing 2 words they memorized out of a high school biology text book. People need to realize that when they start posting messages here these messages will be read by scientists of every known field in science. The 2 words out of a high school biology text book will not impress anyone.
Also, it is my hope that we can attract more coherent creationists. There are currently only about 5 or so (if that) creationists that actually make any sense... and this includes my dark side. If people realize that the inhabitants of EvC are experts in their fields, hopefully this will weed out crackpots, leaving the ones that make sense.
So, enjoy your stay here.

People, please look at the Style Guide for EvC thread by Sylas. Pay particular attention to step 3.
