so i had a thought the other day. godsmack might actually be a decent enough band if they'd ever shut up and just play instrumental. i mean. i like the music but the words are hackneyed and obnoxious.
{Tweeked the topic title some. AM is now officially getting testy about the "shift key impaired". People - Capital letters at the beginnings of titles, sentences, and proper nouns are a very good thing.

I've long surpressed starting a "Coffee House" music topic, because the themes could well make up a whole forum site by themselves.
But this is a good place to plug my personal music oriented web site:http://www.lakenet.com/~mnmoose/ In particular, I would like to pass the "Desert Island Disc" concept by you all. At the http://www.lakenet.com/~mnmoose/did_main.htm page, I have the index page of the listings of the "DID" choices of myself and a number of internet aquaintences. I here invite members to submit their choices to me. Please see the guidelines at the above cited index page. Then please submit your list to me, either via e-mail (mnmoose@lakenet.com) or via this topic. I will post them at my site, under the ID of the forum member. All other ID information will be kept confidential. Moose Added by edit: Please take your time and choose your selections carefully. This message has been edited by minnemooseus, 04-10-2005 02:23 AM

"Desert Island Disc" 30?! jesus. it used to be just five. added by edit: speaking of which my top five of the moment: 1. orfa harnoy + the orford string quartet play the beatles. my friend got me this for christmas. it's nothing short of one of the coolest records (as in vinyl) that i own. 2. vast - turquoise and crimson. the irony having a double cd set of the first two internet-only albums kills me. plus, it's really good. 3. time-life great men of music: chopin. got this four record set for free, outside the music department at school. they give away free music sometimes. 4. sigur ros - ( ). possibly one single most touching and beautiful performances i own. there are no titles, no words, no real pictures, and it's sung in gibberish. the "liner notes" are very light abstract shapes printed on tracing paper. 5. u2 - the joshua tree. i dunno, just been listening to it alot lately. good album. the radio has been sucking lately. the only thing i'm really excited about coming out is the new nin album. from what i've heard, it's going to be really, really good. as for desert island discs... i'll work on my list. godsmack might actually be a decent enough band if they'd ever shut up and just play instrumental. Also true of Linkin Park and The Servant. I was turned onto the Servant when I heard their instrumental track from "Cells" in the Sin City trailer, but when I downloaded the song, I discovered that they totally suck unless their mouths aren't open. Also I think Linkin Park's track "Session" from the Matrix Reloaded soundtrack is pretty cool. But then I know jack about music.

Woohoo! I only recently discovered Ry Cooder's version of "He'll Have to Go." (That's the OLD Jim Reeves ballad, "put your sweet lips a little closer to the phone......") Ry, however, is helped out by Flaco Jimenez playing the sweetest Mexican accordian this side of Monterey. Lovely stuff.

Ry Cooder is amazing. He is probably the best of the living slide guitarists. In addition, some of the work he did with Ali Farka Toure is simply fantastic. I have some of that on as we write.

brennakimi writes: Everything, Bren? i listen to everything.I have been listening to 'Californication" by the Chili Peppers, also "Won't Get Fooled Again" by the Who. In case you think I'm cool, note that I also like "Itty Bitty" by Alan Jackson.(Country corny! ) Then again, I like "November Rain" by Guns and Roses. Why did they break up? Too many drugs or too much money and psychosis?? Oh and I almost forgot "Hey Ya" by Outcast. This message has been edited by Phatboy, 04-10-2005 11:43 AM

is another favorite. Almost everything they do is superb, the latest album is no exception. The lead single was There There, the drum work from which borrows heavily from Iron Butterfly's In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida.
