Windows Internet Explorer 7

I've just done my periodic trip to Windows Update and got Windows Internet Explorer 7 as the only download. I wouldn't have had a clue what version I had already so just clicked "okay" as per usual.It wasn't long before I gathered that this was some sort of "main event" but I just progressed anyhow through the "I accept" and "next" routine.I'm only starting to have a look-see but there seems to be some useful features included, including the tab-to-many-opened-sites, which I understand Firefox to have. The button which gives you thumbnails of all the open pages you have going is pretty cool (and useful)That's after you get over the fright. They've introduced this "major new technology" called 'Clear Text'. I had a look in Wiki and the technical description was pretty impressive. Clever use of the pixels which make up (especially text) images in order to get around the "zig-zag" appearance of anything off vertical/horizontal lines in text. (Look as close as you can at the longer leg of the figure '7' in this threads title and you'll see what I mean). Clear Text softens those sharp edges to give a smoother view (or so the blurb goes).I don't know about your screen (I've a 19" flat panel) but it looks exactly like it would had you perfect vision and put on your grandmas reading glasses. For "Clear Text" read blurred.Nice one Bill....(No real worries: you can turn off Clear Text in the 'tools' section and get back to normal sharp text)

I browse EvC using the links browser. Screw all your fancy tabs, pictures, etc.:-)

Luckily for capitalism you are a minority view. People love whistles and bells.A neighbour of mine bought one of the last-off-off-the-production-line Mini Coopers. The Mini was designed in 195...*glitch* went to the wiki tab and got a piece on the Mini. Copied the link and went to paste here and it didn't paste. Here we go...*sigh*..1959. It weighs 1400lbs or so (ie: miniscule). I went to reverse it, placed my arm over the passenger seat, looked over my shoulder, put heel of hand on the wheel and went to spin it. My hand slid over the leather surface. So THAT's what is like not to have power-assisted steering. Memory lane...I'm wonder is it possible to reverse a Ford Expedition on the palm of ones hand (no link: but its a rain forest destroyingly big bugger)

I can highlight a link from another site, copy it, go to EvC, open 'edit'. 'Paste' is abvailable. I paste it in (say, the reply box, but the link doesn't appear - the blinking cursor just drops to the line below as if something was pasted.Any ideas?Edited by iano, : No reason given.

Firefox is my main browser. Works well - no issues.

IE 6 had no issues that I could tell. IE 7 just has the knobs in a different position (I'm sure). I can't imagine one could copy and past a link from somewhere in IE 6 and cannot do it in IE 7Which gives me and idea...

so, basically, IE just got to the state where Avant browser (a freebie built on the IE engine) has been for years.yeah, nice one Bill

IE7 is now being "pushed"; if you don't explicitly opt out, and you have automatic updates turned on, and you're running XP ... you're getting it. Microsoft Delivering IE7 As Automatic UpdateToolkit to Disable Automatic Delivery of Internet Explorer 7 IMHO it's a significant improvement over IE 6, but not enough to make me switch from Opera. I hope it's more standards-compliant.
