I think that the
Death of a Scotsman (Re: the "no true Scotsman" fallacy) topic has run seriously amuck. What I am shooting for here, is a narrow condensed version of that topic.
What is a "True Scotsman"? Is there really such a thing? What are the essential characteristic(s) that makes one Scottish? What characteristic(s) would make one non-Scottish?
Any considerations of Christianity (or anything else) is OFF-TOPIC, unless you consider being or not being a Christian (or anything else) to be an essential characteristic of being Scottish.
Starting point: A "True Scotsman" is someone who was born in Scotland.
