Hi, as you all know it's september and it's time to get back to school and for me it's time to argue... in sunday school. Now my teacher tells us that the big bang is very similar to the account of Genesis 1. I definitely disagree. Put the theory and Genesis side by side and they are definitely different. Now I am open to all opinions on this.
Are they similar, why or why not? Please go into depth on your replies on this question I am posing. To either refute that they are or to agree that they are.
Thanks,
Looking forward to all of your intelligent replies.

Hi M,
I think it would be a good start to the topic if you told us why you 'definately disagree'?
What is it YOU see wrong when they are placed 'side by side ?'
Is it only the creation story in Genesis 1 you are concerned with?
Brian.

This teacher also states the universe* (better?) is as old as evolution suggests around 16 billion years old give or take. Um 6 days vs. billions of years Id vs. Toe, etc... etc......
Discuss on all of your opinions on why or why not.
Thanks

Hi, M,
Your teacher says the world is 16 billion years old?
I was under the impression that our sun is only about 5 billion years old.
Do you mean that the universe is 16 billion years old?
Brian

Messenjah, maybe you haven't been around long enough yet. But
"evolution" isn't what gives us an age for the earth, sun or universe. That is something you need to get straight as part of understanding what is really going on.
It is physics and cosmology which give those ages and they are pretty far from biology and evolution.

Hi Ned,
It also looks as if Messenjah's 'teacher' hasn't really done his homework either, unless Messenjah is not relaying his 'teacher's' words accurately.
Maybe a good place for Messenjah to start would be to state how both camps arrive at their 'starting dates'? He already says that the big bang was 16 billion years ago, although he doesn't say how this figure is arrived at. He doen't mention the date of creation at all and this also means he hasn't mentioned how that date is arrived at either.
Brian.

Uh the big bang's date you can get anywhere this belief is discussed. As for the creation timeline, all the genologies + 2000 years, give or take. Will you please discuss my original question or are you just going to pound me for minor details?

Um 6 days vs. billions of years
What is it about then exactly?
Is it cosmology, ancient Hebrew cosmology versus modern day science?
In order to discuss exactly what you want ot discuss, don't you think it would be a good idea to explain a bit clearer what it is you wish to discuss?
Now you started the thread by saying that you 'definately disagree' with your teacher. In order for you to 'definately disagree' suggests that you have looked into the topic in great detail, I mean how else could you 'definately disagree'?
So what is it that you disagree with, or do you simply want everyone else to do your homework for you?
Brian.

Hi MessenjaH,
Discussions usually develop only when people have different ideas or opinions. Since the evolutionists here are pretty much in agreement about the Big Bang and the age of the universe, a discussion among us on this topic is unlikely to spring up. Someone is going have to submit a contrary opinion. Since you opened the thread, that someone would be you, or perhaps another Creationist that you recruit.

"Discussions usually develop only when people have different ideas or opinions."
Exactly, I just wanted to see how other ppl felt on the question I originally posed.

Whether you agree with me or not, since no discussion is developing in this thread you might want to consider the possibility that you're going about this the wrong way.

Personally I don't think the big bang is anything more than big guesswork. There, an opinion wasn't that hard guys!

Hi Mike,
There, an opinion wasn't that hard guys!
I don't think this is exactly what messanjah was hoping to get in response to his request.
