A music player. A simple music player. Why must it turn into something so f***ing difficult?

I have a Google Pixel phone. Not a Samsung because all the bloat-ware that imported make my previous phone unstable. Not an iPhone because the Genius at the Apple Genius bar assured me that it would be unusable for me (I need to connect to my Windows computer to transfer files).

I just want to be able to play the music files on my phone, the one that I choose. Simple, or? (hyper-typical Germanism -- "Das ist aber komisch, oder?"). I have just gone through four or five of the top music apps for Android and none of them work or else they try to lure you to the Dark Side that I, 70 years old, do not want to investigate.

So what app is there for playing the music file selected by the user? -- Android, of course! In all these apps I tried, I would choose a song and it would play something completely different. Makes absolutely no sense at all!

My phone is a Samsung Note 8 android. I am happy with a music player app called Poweramp. There are a fair number of settings and you have to point it at the folders that have you mp3s. You can search through all your songs, albums, artists, playlists, etc. It plays well over my car stereo or headphones. I think I paid $6.

I have a Samsung Note 8

I use Hi-Fi Cast
-plays music on your phone normally
-includes selections to send your music to other devices (car, modern amp, smart home speaker, Bluetooth speaker...)
-is free
-sometimes there's a screen ad for paying to purchase and you can do that to make the screen ad go away, or just close it
-I just close the ad screen and it's always worked great for me
-I don't use it a lot
