So, how is everyone? Is everything ok? Have the overlords gotten to all of you at once? Am I alone again lost in this wanna-be simulation of human existence we call the internet?
You do know that social distancing refers to physical distance, right? With all the servers spread all over the world that these little electrons get scattered through I think we're talking, maybe, 10,000KM cumulative length between us. Well within guidelines and you don't even have to wear a mask.
Je suis Charlie. Je suis Ahmed. Je suis Juif. Je suis Parisien. I am Mancunian. I am Brum. I am London.I am Finland. Soy Barcelona

"Science adjusts it's views based on what's observed. Faith is the denial of observation so that Belief can be preserved." - Tim Minchin, in his beat poem, Storm.
Morning Paul - fine here too thanks - very busy with the day job, and decorating some of the house in my spare time, so not as much time to come on here as I'd like - but I try to keep up with the flow.
All the best to us all, in these weird times !
Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?
On the home stretch I hope in getting a whole home standby generator installed. The unit finally arrived and got installed, the electrical connections installed, the plumbing for Natural Gas installed and pressurized. Waiting for the City inspection and sign off and for Texas Natural Gas to lay in the line from my curb to a meter.
The hope is that by next spring I'll be able to get through any more major outages with AC.
I am ready for the world to get back to normal, that much is for sure. The simple act of sitting at a bar and tipping back pints with your mates will never be taken for granted again.
My son lives about 2500 miles away in Florida, which has now plateaued but still is being mismanaged. He keeps asking me when I'm going to come visit them (which includes both my grandsons aged 15 mo and 2 mo). I turn 69 on Election Day, so I'm expecting a very nice present (ie, the right election results).
Yesterday I took my friend to the hospital. She has a history of medical problems involving her lungs which would make COVID especially dangerous for her, so she'd been avoiding all contact since being laid off in April (worked for a company that supplies systems to airlines). Her oxygen level was down in the 80's, so I took her in -- on the way near where she lives a fire truck passed me and I thought, "Oh no! I'm too late!", but it kept going. I'm sure that they tested her for COVID and, since she hasn't told me I assume that it was negative.
Brief scare when coworker started to show symptoms over the weekend, she quarantined herself and got tested. Test came back negative. I got tested and got my flu shot, waiting for results.
About a week before So Calif shut down in March I assisted a dance teacher in her West Coast Swing workshop. I worked closely with two male students, one of whom needed a lot help with his footwork so I worked more closely with him. A week or two after the shutdown, she informed me that that student had come down with symptoms and tested positive for COVID. Waiting and watching for signs that we had caught it too, I think that's when I got into the habit of taking my temperature a few times a day -- interestingly, I normally start the day around 97.5°F and when I later start to feel feverish is when I've hit "normal" (98.6°F).
Here in Melbourne Australia we are down to 1or2 cases a day after a peak of 750. We are well locked down with many businesses shut, but some of our states have no cases with people free to act normally within their borders.
I feel for USA with your Covid and White House troubles. We gasp at the idea of anyone even thinking of voting for DT.
I am the proud owner of two shiny new coronary stents but seem to be doing well with them.
As I think I've mentioned I've been trying to get a whole house standby generator installed for almost a year now. It took forever for the unit to even get shipped. But it's been installed and the electricians have done their part to set it up with the house and the plumber has installed, pressurized and tested to piping for natural gas and the city has inspected and approved the installation but the Natural Gas folk say it will likely be first of the year before they can install their piping and meter.
The problem is said to be staffing. It seems many of the crews have been sent to the areas affected by hurricanes to the east of me and to areas affected by fires to the north and west of me and some that remained are in quarantine for Covid-19 and so new service like elective surgery has been moved to the far end of the line.
But surprisingly, I find that really comforting. Yep; get them what are without power back online first and as long as I get up and running before the next major storm season all is well.
