I was just curious if any of you guys fold?
If you are unaware, it is a program that you can run on your PC. It is a background process, but many people have dedicated folding rigs as it maxes your CPU and graphics card. It is done to help understand protein folding. You, through the running of this software, basically become part of a worldwide supercomputer to help understand protein folding and find cures for diseases.
A little from the folding@home page:
Our goal: to understand protein folding, misfolding, and related diseases
You can help scientists studying these diseases by simply running a piece of software.
Folding@home is a distributed computing project -- people from throughout the world download and run software to band together to make one of the largest supercomputers in the world. Every computer takes the project closer to our goals. Folding@home uses novel computational methods coupled to distributed computing, to simulate problems millions of times more challenging than previously achieved.
I personally do not since I don't have the resources available to have a dedicated rig, but some of you rich guys might.

Many of the folk here at EvC have been members of the Wold Community Grid since about 2005 or so. One of the projects that has been featured at WCG is the Human Proteome Folding which is now in Phase II.

Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

Awesome! I figured most of the science guys around here would be into it.

Cool. I've never actually folded before, but I'm active in a couple overclocking forums where they have a high number of participants (mainly because most of the people have killer rigs that can spit out massive PPD), so I've heard quite a bit about it. I think I'll give it a go tonight after I get my RAID array built.

I find the software very unobtrusive.
It whirrs away quietly in the background - so I have it on my work PC and my game/other PC.

Yea, I've ran SETI a few times. I just didn't really like the fact that my CPU was at 100% constantly. But, they're both for the greater good, so I've decided to give it a go for a bit, if not just to burn in my system.
