Google video
For those of you who know more about the mormon, is there any truth to this video? It's only about 6 minutes long, so watch it.

I can't verify all of it by any means, but a fair bit of it is true.

For those of us without video, can you give a quick synopsis?

Of course, biblical creationists are committed to belief in God's written Word, the Bible, which forbids bearing false witness; --AIG (lest they forget)

I'm sure someone else has the patience to write out a more detailed description.
(1) There are many gods.
(2) They breed ferociously.
(3) One of them came down and had sex with Mary.
(4) Jesus, instead of ascending to heaven after the resurrection, got married and had many children.
(5) Jesus went to the Americas and shared his good news with the white-skinned people there, which were actually Israelites.
(6) The evil dark-skinned people, aka descendants of lucifer, exterminated the white-skinned people of the Americas.
(7) The last surviving American Israelite hid all records of Jesus's teachings (god tablets).
(8) Joseph Smith found the tablets.
(9) He started the church of mormon based on these golden tablets and a magic hat.
(10) After you die, you will stand in front of god, joseph smith, and jesus (in order of importance) to be judged.
(11) Dark-skinned people are evil. White-skinned people are saints.
That's pretty much it.

Not sure.

True (after the Resurrection, and IIRC supernaturally).
quote:
(6) The evil dark-skinned people, aka descendants of lucifer, exterminated the white-skinned people of the Americas.
I thought that the video got this right. The dark-skinned people were more Israelites (the population split. and the "evil" group, the Lamanites, were cursed with dark skin).
quote:
(7) The last surviving American Israelite hid all records of Jesus's teachings (god tablets).
Again the video got this right - the last of the white-skinned Israelites (Nephites) allegedly hid the tablets. But they were more a record of the events leading them to the Americas and their history there.
quote:
(8) Joseph Smith found the tablets.
True.
quote:
(9) He started the church of mormon based on these golden tablets and a magic hat.
Mostly true - it was a magic stone which he put in his hat which supposedly let him translate the tablets from "Reformed Eyptian".
quote:
(10) After you die, you will stand in front of god, joseph smith, and jesus (in order of importance) to be judged.
Don't know.

Oh yea, I have heard all that before.
I have also heard rumors that they believe that if you can get to a certain level of heaven that you then become one of these gods and get to pop out spiritual babies with your many wives to populate you own planet.
I have never actually read the book of mormon though so I cannot personally testify to any of that. IT is just what I have heard.
That being said, I have many friends who are mormon who are the nicest people that I know. Certainly no racists among them even if there are racists undertones in the religion.

Well, I watched it in a hurry once this morning. Put that last post together from what I remembered.
You write a synopsis of the video

I have many friends who are christians and they all are very nice. But let just say that, according to my standard of being a good person, they all fall short of it.
I've had mormon friends as well. Yes, they were all nice people. Can't say I agree with how they defined as living a good life.

The Book of Mormon is available online. Much of the goofier stuff is in later books. (e.g. "The Pearl of Great Price"). I think that they are also available online.
Mark Twain famously described the Book of Mormon as "chloroform in print" and he had a point. It's a pretty bad pastiche of the KJV - when it isn't largely copying it.

I didn't know they considered more than the Bible and the BoM as holy books. What is the source of this 'The Peral of Great Price'

Joseph Smith again. He introduced more books either as translations "The Book of Jospeh" and "The Book of Abraham" or revelations sent directly to him as Prophet.
The scrolls that appear to be the originals of the books of Joseph and Abraham have been found (although there is a small uncertainty) and they are no such thing - Smith's "translation" appears to be a complete fabrication.
The leader of the Mormon Church is recognised as a Prophet (by Mormons) and probably has more doctrinal authority than the Pope - while he is alive. After he's dead the current Prophet can overrule him.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm convinced!
yeah right
Great video though, I thought it was very entertaining and informative. Outerspace, battle scenes, sex....that's my kind of video. You all should go watch it.
If its true, then Mormonism is as loony as Scientology.
Of course, virgin births and rising from the dead are hardly sane ideas themselves...
