Owen Gingerich
Office of Spirituality and Meaning-Making | Student & Campus Life | Cornell Universityjust finished giving his
talk.
I was very late, having to run a meeting at Church, mostly on eco-justice instead.
I caught the very last question.
Owen said that he had spoken with E.O. Wilson a couple of weeks ago about
Wilson's project on Biodiveristy. Gingerich said he said, "Ed you know extinction is really all what evolution is about these days", and with Dr. Wilson agreeing Owen said further, "Don't you think that what you are doing is being bank-rolled by the Judaeo-Christian Tradition" and in fact Ed Wilson agreed. Reading between the lines, the joke was that we are all part of being an ant's advocate.
Owen was introduced by Frank Rhodes (when I was at CU my whole deal was to try to get Rhodes to see what evolutionists where doing with me but instead his office sent my simple stating of facts to the health dept) and it was announced that Dr. Gingerich is using this lecture series
Page not found - Chesterton HousePage Not Found Carthage Collegeas part of a book in progress to be simply titled "Evolution". I was told by fellow Church members in attendance that the entire talk will be available on-line.
I will make a link to that as soon as find one.
For me this indicates a much more sophisticated evolution/creation relation than we have been used to in recent memory.
