Maybe there is hope for education in the U.S. after all.
LANSING, Michigan (AP) -- The State Board of Education on Tuesday approved public school curriculum guidelines that support the teaching of evolution in science classes -- but not intelligent design.
Intelligent design instruction could be left for other classes in Michigan schools, but it doesn't belong in science class, according to the unanimously adopted guidelines.
"The intent of the board needs to be very clear," said board member John Austin, an Ann Arbor Democrat. "Evolution is not under stress. It is not untested science."
Some science groups and the American Civil Liberties Union had worried that state standards would not be strong enough to prevent the discussion of intelligent design as the course expectations developed over the summer.
The guidelines approved Tuesday detail what the state expects school districts to teach in their science classes. If a district or teacher chose to include intelligent design in a science class, they could face a court challenge from opponents of teaching intelligent design.

Re: Hmmm?
I am just interested to see what will happen in Zeeland MI, we are still under prohabition LOL
Everyone in Zeeland has a closed mind, stuck in their little "old ways" if you know what I mean... Who knows, I support it all the way; we just have like 4 christian schools in our town... thats it... and like 25 churches... Everyone here is... well... Lets just say that we haven't grown or expanded our town because they like it simple here...o_o

Re: Hmmm?
This is , of course, the standards for public schoools. In religious schools, they do not have to worry about that little old thing known as
'seperation of church and state'.

Some pros
With the ailing economy, migration of jobs and the overall condition of this state there are a few exceptions as why I love living here. An example is above.

LANSING, Michigan (AP) -- Michigan girls entering the sixth grade next year would have to be vaccinated against cervical cancer under legislation backed Tuesday by a bipartisan group of female lawmakers.
The legislation is the first of its kind in the United States, said Republican state Sen. Beverly Hammerstrom, lead sponsor.
The vaccine was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in June for use in girls and women and has been hailed as a breakthrough in cancer prevention. It prevents infections from some strains of the sexually transmitted human papilloma virus, which can cause cervical cancer and genital warts.

Re: Some pros
You know that's a good thing, but it's sad to think that they need to have it done... Everything about sex is so disoriented; I feel bad for the youth
