We now have at least one record of CO2 levels going back 800,000 years and the current level of concentration is unprecedented. In addition, the rate of increase is so far beyond anything that has ever been seen that there is absolutely no way to make direct comparisions. In the article the authors point out that we are seeing rates of change over a 30 year period comparable to what was seen over a millenium in the past.
The one conclusion that can be drawn from the record is that there is a direct correlation between CO2 concentration and climate change.
