These antics (Message 4) are just the latest in a ridiculous stream of people claiming that they are being censored here at EvC.
There is no Taboo Topic. No one is ever restricted from talking about the topic they would like to talk about. The only restrictions are that these topics must be focused. You cannot over-ride someone elses topic with your desired theme. Yet you can always create a new thread and then talk about whatever the hell you'd like to talk about. So stop being rude and start your own topic for your own idea. There are a multitude of forums here and the admins will help guide your topic to the right area. If it isn't within the EvC debate, there's the Coffee House right here. If it's a 'controversial' topic that the admins don't have time to deal with, it may get moved to Free For All. I have never witnessed any topic ever being censored here at EvC. All I have ever witnessed is ridiculous people trying to force their pet-topic into other people's threads, and then cry "censorship" when they are told they cannot talk about their off-topic ideas in other people's threads. Just start your own thread, it's not difficult and it's free. Anything else is simply rude.

While I agree that all topics are welcome here, I just couldn't let this pass without pointing this out.
Here follows the quote from Percy:
Admin writes: Hi Hoot Mon, Your harping on gay issues is bringing you into conflict with the Forum Guidelines on a consistent basis. I'm requesting that you cease raising gay issues, and that you cease participation in discussions touching even remotely on gay issues. The first violation of this request will result in a permanent suspension. Please keep in mind that since the board restructuring in January that no permanent suspension has ever been reversed. While it is true OTHER people can start topics on gay issues, it is rather evident that Hoot Mon can't. Now, wether or not that's his own fault, I won't comment on, since I haven't read all his threads. So, while no topics are banned outright, it seems some persons are prohibited from joining these topics. Why? I don't know, but I suspect there is a reson for this. I hunt for the truth

Hoot Mon is a victim of his own past behavior. He finally used up all his free passes for antagonistic anti-gay comments. It wasn't the topic, it was the personal antagonism he displayed whenever the topic came up, and if there was a gay person in the thread and it didn't come up, he'd introduce it anyway.

No one is ever prohibited from joining any topic, at all, unless they themselves have already acted in a way to prohibit others from joining in their own topics. Once you show yourself to be interested in restricting the free debate of other people, you will be given the choice to stop infringing on other's chats or leave. It's just like anyone's right to personal health and pursuit of happiness. You can do anything you want, as long as it doesn't infringe on those same rights of others. Infrings on others' rights, and you should be restrained. I really don't see what's so difficult about this. It remains that anyone and everyone is allowed to talk about any topic at all. The only "restriction" is not to get in the way of others talking about their own topics. Are you seriously trying to claim that there's some sort of problem with this? Or that there's some sort of better way to run things?

No not at all. It was merely a question as to why things were done this way. It's been made clear to me, and I understand now why it was done. Are you seriously trying to claim that there's some sort of problem with this? Or that there's some sort of better way to run things? Further, after that "why?" you quoted, I said I suspected there were reasons for this. It turns out there were, and, while I might not agree with them on a personal level, I can see that they are necessary to keep topics from derailing. As a closure, I would like to add that the decision made in this by the admins seems to be the right one, as Percy's explanation made clear. Topics will derail if order is not kept. I hunt for the truth

Sorry, this issue in itself is a pet-peeve of mine and I fly off the handle about it sometimes.
That wasn't so much a reply to you as it was a reply to anyone who is questioning anything about "censorship" around here. It really irritates me when people complain when they don't have the right to complain. I think someone doesn't have the right to complain if they: 1. Have done the wrong thing and therefore deserve what they are complaining about. (Really, really irritates me)2. Have not done anything wrong, but also do not (for whatever reason) offer up a solution to whatever it is they're complaining about. (Just kinda irritates me) Sorry for exploding a bit there. This is just an issue I needed to vent about.

Ok, cool
It really irritates me when people complain when they don't have the right to complain. I think someone doesn't have the right to complain if they:
Yes, that annoys me as well.

I agree, also annoying.

Like I said, no problem, we all need to blow off some steam sometimes. I hunt for the truth

But there is a difference, I think, between enforcing the rules of proper posting conduct and the discriminative targeting individuals for censorship. Where has the good humor gone? It's gotten to be so uptight around here you can hardly get a breath of fresh air. That wasn't so much a reply to you as it was a reply to anyone who is questioning anything about "censorship" around here. ”FTF I can see Lower Slobovia from my house.

Where has the good humor gone? There has never, ever been any "discriminative targeting of individuals for censorship" here. None. All that has ever happened is stopping rude interruptions from getting in the way of other's trying to have a meaningful discussion. If your "good humour" is restricting others from having a discussion about a topic they wish to discuss, then it's hardly "good" at all. And it should be restrained. Just don't be an ass. It's that easy.

You're calling me a stupid ass for civilly voicing my opinion? Isn't there a rule prohibiting that?

Fosdick The Fearless writes: You're calling me a stupid ass for civilly voicing my opinion? Of course not. You never did civilly voice your opinion. Civilly voicing your opinion would not be dragging your off-topic opinion into every thread you visit. I'm calling you a stupid ass for thinking your off-topic opinion is somehow welcome where others are having a nice conversation about something totally different.

That's not true. You're a liar.

If you call me a stupid ass one more time I'll have to ask an Admin step in. I've never insulted or offended you as such. ”FTF

You certainly did voice your opinion civially and on-topic right here in this thread. Well done. "That's a good point, Boomhauer, but it's not what we're talkin' about".
