Author | Topic: Best and Worst Avatars? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Of course, nothing beats avatars. One thousand points to the first person who identifies mine.
My vote for worst avatar: Any with animation. Don't folks know that automatically draws your attention, and that's really annoying? My vote for best: That monkey Percipient was using, cuz I like monkeys. ------------------"Colorless green ideas sleep furiously." - Chomsky [This message has been edited by Zhimbo, 08-11-2003]

I really like Quetzal's picture of his/her better-looking namesake. On the other hand, MessenjaH has posted a few truly sickening snaps from Dr. Dino's gallery of decaying aquatic creatures, and I don't want to know what's in Wounded King's specimen jar. But my vote for most disturbing avatar goes to Rrhain.

quote: I know I must avoid looking at DC85's flashing whatever it is, least it cause me to turn into AdminHulk, and start smashing things (starting with DC85). Moose ps: In the admin mode, I started with a black square, which I considered to be the ultimate anti-avatar. Admin/Percy and I (Adminnemooseus) have played with that one a bit.

Well, I will admit to having a soft spot for Barn Owls.

In contrast, I enjoy staring catatonically at DC85's blinking avatar, since it distracts me from his actual post.

I don't mind the animated avatars - I like the Taz one.
I don't have any favorites yet, nor do I want to hurt anyone's feelings by stating which ones are the worst, but I definitely agree. The most disurbing avatars are Rrhain's and Wounded King's. I just can't help staring at both of them for long periods of time. Rrhain's is mesmerizing (who IS that man?) and WK's is just plain disgusting looking (looks like a shark fetus to me). As for your avatar, I'll guess Lord Kelvin.

You see, the thousand points you're all just aching to have will likely go unclaimed on this forum, as my avatar's visage is borrowed from noone from the biological or physical sciences. If anyone cares, some hints: He's well known in my own personal professional circles, and he's related to a famous novelist. Heck that's giving it away!
Animated avatars: Well, the Taz one is at least amusing, but I'm still getting pretty tired of having the edges of every screen I look at - TV or computer - filled with flashing, moving doodads. Makes me want to read books or something. Watching Star Trek:TNG on TNN the other day, at times fully 1/3 of the screen was taken up by an advertisement for the upcoming Spike channel ("Why is that helicopter flying towards Picard's head?"). Maybe I'm just well on my way to curmudgeonhood. ------------------"Colorless green ideas sleep furiously." - Chomsky

Well, since this is a debate board:

It's William James, whose work On the Varieties of Religious Experience would have been better if he had (all together now) left variation out of his definition.

Congrats to MrHambre, he of the rather abstract avatar, for winning 1000 points. Do with them as you will.
Darn funny post, too.

I'd always assumed that Rrhains was himself, or were you being disingenuous? As for mine it is actually a beluga whale foetus, isn't he cute?
