I fondly remember going to see Natalie Imbruglia some palce in London when I was a callow undergrad in 97 (I think).
It was a great show, I got in a fight on the way home and wound up in bed to two of my mates.
Going to university is great, innit?
What adventures did you how at uni?

Kent State shootings
I was a grad student at UW in Seattle in 1970 when the Kent State shootings happened. Just prior to that there was a police riot on campus by hooded off-duty cops. They beat up hippies with their clubs, so we were already damn pissed off when the Kent State news broke. There a huge gathering on campus outside the HUB, boiling with all the outrage we could muster. Then we marched in force from there to downtown and the Federal Building to register our complaint. It was a remarkable time.

Interstate 5 gets invaded by protesters.

Why were the hooded cops beating up hippies?

Re: Kent State shootings
They likely couldn't find any Negroes to beat on that day.....
It was kind of a tradition in the late sixties for police to pick on hippies. The 1968 Democratic convention in Chicago is probably the best-known example.

9/11/2001
Of all the great memories I took with me from college, sadly the one that had a greater impact on myself was when the 9-11 terrorist attacks happened.
It was my first semester of my freshman year at the university of puerto rico-mayaguez campus and that happened like two weeks into the semester. I was at my marching band rehearsal and suddenly at 9:15 am approximately the music department's secretary comes crashing in to the band practice room saying "Im sorry to interrupt director but you may want to turn the tv on." The tv was turned on and there it was. A scenes many around the world will never forget. THe two buildings were alreday hit and we saw them implode on live tv. It was a horrible feeling.
After rehearsal at around 12 pm, I walked over to a shopping center to have lunch on the top story food court. When i reached the last floor everybody at the food court was stuck watching the tv. Nobody was in line for almost every shop and practically nobody was eating at 12pm!!(lunch hour here for most people). I also heard from friends that the student center and library had everyone watching the tv. Most classes were canceled
Its a day ill never forget

Coragyps is right. Cops hated hippies. I was attacked on the street in 1970 by two Nixonian pricks for having a peace sign on my backpack. They called it "the footprint of the American chicken." I threw my bicycle up on the hood their car and scratched it up pretty good. When the cops came they sided with the pricks.
