Chimp-sized hominid walked upright on two legs
six million years ago. by Barbara Hale State
University, Public release date: 2-Sep-2004
Chimp-sized hominid walked upright on two leg | EurekAlert!
"Recent fossil evidence suggests that a hominid, the size
of a chimp, walked upright on two legs in Kenya's Tugen
Hills, over 6 million years ago --- about 3 million years
earlier than "Lucy," the most famous early biped in
lineage."
The paper is:

Yours,
Bill

What about the chances of this 1 to 3 ratio to be a one and only?
What's up with Lucy?
quote:
Creationists, on the other hand, believe Lucy has been misinterpreted. They insist that Lucy was just another ape, and that her species was almost identical to the chimpanzees of today. Although they agree that Lucy may have walked upright now and then, they point out that modern chimpanzees are also capable of an occasional upright stroll. Creationists emphasize the ape-like features of Australopithecus afarensis. They feel there is little or no evidence that the species was a product of evolution.
I found this at http://www.geocities.com/thenorthtower/lucypage.html
The website owner maintains that Lucy is a matter of opinion. Rather than a straight piece of evidence.
These "hominids" look like indirect evidence, the 1 to 3 ratio looks edgy, could be argued as a type of monkey/chimp/orangatang, etc...

Is "Lucy" a hoaxe?
No, in fact there are now over 20 examples of Australopithecus afarensis IIRC.

about 300 separate individuals have been found since 1973.
Maybe more?
The evidence can be faulty though, considering modern Chimps.

Thank you for the link, Bill. It is very interesting. I am at a new college, and I haven't yet gotten back into the habit of walking to the library and looking over the latest issue of Science.
I do have a question. From the article in the link:
Eckhardt says, "In present day chimps and gorillas, the thicknesses in the upper and lower parts of that bone are approximately equal. In modern humans, the bone on top is thinner than on the bottom by a ratio of one to four or more. The ratio in this fossil is one to three."
Is this really diagnostic of bipedalism?

Links and Information forum is problematical
I know I have previously bounced one of Bill topics from a debate forum to this forum, because the opening message was little or nothing more than a bare link(s) (albeit a fine link(s) I'm sure).
I'm sure that is why Bill posted this topic to this forum.
While message 1 was indeed a collection of links, it does include come commentary and/or quotes, and seems suitable and destined to be a debate topic (and debating in the L&I forum is discouraged).
I'm going to move it to the "Human Origins" forum. Maybe I'll post a "What does and does not belong in the L&I forum? topic.
