Thread: I Am Not An Atheist!
Message #: 283 Re: Excuse Me
In this post Rahvin takes every point made by Kelly and addresses each in a clear coherent manner. At no time is Rahvin condescending, but clearly shows that Kelly needs to learn some things in order to be able to carry on a meaningful debate.

Facts don't lie or have an agenda. Facts are just facts

dwise1's brief history...
Some of us will remember Faith. Somebody once looked around the POTM nominations and realized that a large percentage of POTMs were actually replies to Faith's posts. That was something of an honour I suppose. It looks like Kelly is fulfilling that role this week alone...
I'd like to draw attention to dwise1's interesting dissection of Creation Science through the past several decades.
dwise1, Message 63
One humorous but true description of the TMA {"Two-Model Approach"} is a book of two chapters: Chapter One is "Evolution" and Chapter Two is "Everything that's wrong with Chapter One." The TMA attempts to prove creation solely by attacking evolution.
While you're at it, check out Message 67 too.

Straggler succinctly lays out one of the fundamental differences between speculation about life on another planet and supernatural entities.

Re: dwise1's brief history...
Thank you, but the "book of two chapters" I had gotten when I was first learning about "creation science". On the radio in 1983, I heard it used in a presentation by Fred Edwords of (I believe) the American Humanist Association. That presentation was also where I had first heard of the Committees of Correspondence and how they had turned the tide in the debates (where during most of the 70's the slickly prepared creationists had been chewing up their isolated and "creation science"-illiterate opponents piece-meal, and neglecting to mention the ones who had gotten the best of them -- creationist newsletters would always report success regardless of the actual outcome) and the NCSE. And his recounting of H. Morris' "Bunny Blunder" population-growth argument brought down the house and led to another quote I got from that presentation, David Milne's "Creationism is more fun than science!".
My purpose in writing those posts was to inform Kelly that we do indeed already know what "creation science" is, to inform her of the history of which I'm sure she is unaware (having long recognized the role of the P.T.Barnum Effect within the creationist community), to inform her of how intimately involved her sources had been in this history, to urge her to present something different from what has been presented before, and to show her why we need her to present something different. While I do not doubt her sincerity, I do doubt her ability to deliver the goods, but hopefully it will at least motivate her to start learning.

Aw Shucks!
Cheers Percy, you're too kind. Thanks as well to Larni, who left a very generous message on the thread itself.
It's always nice to be appreciated, doubly so when it is from people one respects.
