dwise1 - 2 messages at "YEC without the bible, possible?"
Author: dwise1

Thread: YEC without the bible, possible?
Message #: 34, 42
dwise1, in message 34, writes:
Unitarian Universalist, of the atheist stripe.
The details of dwise1's transition from theist to atheist.
dwise1, in message 42, writes:
A quick history of "creation science", if I may.
Exactly what the above quote says.
Somehow I suspect I've POTM'ed this dwise1 material before. Well, it's back! Now the question is, were the messages on-topic?
Also kudos to the other participants of the topic - A pretty nice job all around.

Enthusiastically seconded. dwise1 has a strong record of quality posts on this kind of topic. I would encourage creationist readers (or those who are perhaps on the fence) to pay close attention to what he has to say. I particularly agree with this statement;
dwise1 writes:
They're not trying to prove creation, but rather they just want to prove science to be wrong. About anything. That's why they'll even make claims that have absolutely nothing to do with evolution or the age of the earth (eg, to role of refrigerants in depleting the ozone layer); from a strict creation/evolution perspective, that just doesn't make any sense at all, but from the perspective of proving science to be wrong it does make sense. And they don't even have to actually prove science wrong, just so long as they can cast enough doubt.
In my opinion, this undermining of science, not just evolutionary biology, but all science, is what makes creationism so objectionable and dangerous.

Caffeine: "Coded Information in DNA"
I would like to nominate Caffeine's post #41 from Coded Information in DNA.
I particularly like the succinctness and the simplicity of the post: Caffeine presented an effective argument in just a couple of simple paragraphs. The post describes a simple mechanism (DNA base pairing), along with a conceptual analogy (social insect castes), and doesn't get bogged down in the inherent confusion of the subject matter.

We know the gene, we know the site, we know the mutation, we know the result. Laid out in simple precise steps that fit the whole argument well within the GML (Granny Magda Limit).
