That Einstein was such a Einstein!
Now if Scientist can just confirm the graviton.

Whatever, man. I'll be impressed when they get me some tachyons, and not a moment sooner.

OOPS!!! Gravitational waves discovery now officially dead
Gravitational waves discovery now officially dead
quote:
A team of astronomers that last year reported evidence for gravitational waves from the early Universe has now withdrawn the claim. A joint analysis of data recorded by the team's BICEP2 telescope at the South Pole and by the European spacecraft Planck has revealed that the signal can be entirely attributed to dust in the Milky Way rather than having a more ancient, cosmic origin.
Back to the drawing boards.
Sigh.

Re: OOPS!!! Gravitational waves discovery now officially dead
The discovery reported in 2014 was declared "dead" over a year ago (the date on the report is 30 January 2015)
That is not news, nor relevant to this months report from LIGO

Not so Dead
Gravitational waves discovery now officially dead
From BICEP, yes. Their data was lacking. But the recent LIGO announcement is intact, though it too, needs to be confirmed by replication.
The thing about the LIGO data is that both sites, Washington and Louisiana, recorded the same data, to within 99.999%, and recorded their data 10 ms apart which is precisely the light distance between the two instruments. The authors show that these detections exceed a 5 sigma threshold for detecting the same event. Further, the structure of both sets of data match the predictions of GR so well they are able to determine the masses of the two black holes that merged and their distance.
Confirmation is required as a matter of discipline, but at a 5 sigma confidence level it's just a formality. Gravity waves have been detected and all but officially confirmed.

Telomeres

I would be even more impressed if telomere decay was suppressed or stopped. It would be great for space travel, but considering overpopulation, it is probably too soon.
