It seems to be as I suspected: the Black Lives Matter movement is just a clever cover for criminal hooliganism. As if violent 'protests' weren't enough...
Black Lives Matter Activists Commandeer Sanders Speech In Seattle O'Malley Booed as He Points Out: 'White Lives Matter. All Lives Matter.' Seeing stuff like this really makes me glad I'm not a black American with real social problems requiring real solutions. Because one thing is certain: this nonsense will solve no problems and only cause more difficulty. Edited by Jon, : No reason given.Love your enemies!

So when systemic racial inequities exist that not only disadvantage black people but endanger their lives, that's not white people's fault. But when a couple of loudmouthed activists interrupt a speech by a Presidential candidate, it supposedly reflects poorly on the sincerity and virtue of all black people and the movement that aims to rectify the social injustices facing them.
Did I get that right?

So using Jon's logic, the Republican party is just a clever disguise for racism and misogyny.

Too bad for them.
Because on my side are reforms for funding public education that don't leave the most disadvantaged children going to the poorest schools. On my side are good paying jobs that allow fathers to provide for their children instead of running away leaving Mom to raise the babies. On my side are communities that engage young folks instead of letting them become drug addicts. On my side are actual solutions to the real problems that face African Americans, other minorities, and the poor in general. Now I know it's not the lawless, anarchy nonsense of groups like Black Lives Matter or Al Sharpton, eagerly waiting for the next tragedy to get him more screen time, but I can live with that. Because these movements offer no solutions, and their disregard for law and order only puts them against the folks who can help and deepens the enmity felt toward them by already-prejudiced people. These movements will ensure the continued paucity of inner-city education, the continued high rates of unemployment and broken families, and the continued reliance on drugs and alcohol by people trying to escape their miserable existences. So I'm fine not being on that side, ringo. In fact I'm rather perplexed by the people who do support such movements like Black Lives Matter and wish such horrible fate on so many folks just 'cause they're black. That I cannot figure out. Well, on your side are the people who think black lives don't matter - like the KKK. Even if you claim you have the best interests of black people at heart, you don't come across as "on their side" if you attack other people who are on their side.

Even if you claim you have the best interests of black people at heart, you don't come across as "on their side" if you attack other people who are on their side. Typical nonsense from you, ringo. Just like supporting women's rights doesn't involve supporting the 'rights' of mothers to mutilate their daughters, supporting the rights of African Americans to have better lives does not mean supporting everything every black person anywhere might believe. Some black folk, just like some white folk, just don't have a clue in hell how to improve the lot of African Americans, and we have no reason to support their nonsense.

There's the problem that many of your assumptions, however, are false.
The people involved weren't from Black Lives Matter, for example. The "absent black father" is a myth, too, according to the CDC. Add on top of that the fact that one out of six black men will be incarcerated, their ability for them to maintain their involvement in their children's lives is quite remarkable. And as soon as you whined about Sharpton, it was obvious that you don't have an actual argument. Instead, you're making the same argument as those who fought against ACT UP. They're making you uncomfortable. If only they could be "reasonable," things would just get better. You can't be "reasonable" when people don't even recognize the problem and refuse to listen to the people who are experiencing it first hand. Before you can begin to offer solutions, you need to recognize the size and scope of the problem. "Lawless, anarchy nonsense." That's cute. The original observation remains: Somehow two people have made you write off thousands. Very telling.Rrhain Thank you for your submission to Science. So you have no counter argument and offer no real solutions.
Got it. Thanks.Love your enemies!

You're using a small number of "criminal hooligans" to condemn the whole Black Lives Matter movement - i.e. you're claiming that the whole Black Lives Matter movement and all of its supporters, both black and white, "don't have a clue in hell". Or maybe you're the one who doesn't have a clue in hell. Some black folk, just like some white folk, just don't have a clue in hell how to improve the lot of African Americans, and we have no reason to support their nonsense. Edited by ringo, : Spellling.

No counter argument from you either, eh?
How 'bout you show the efficacy of the Black Lives Matter movement? Show how police shootings of black folks have been on the decline; show how incarceration rates for African Americans has been on the decline; show the increase in graduation rates of blacks in areas where BLM has been active; or really demonstrate the effectiveness of BLM on any meaningful measure of success. Why don't you offer something other than irrelevant and baseless accusations of racism and blind support for a demonstratively unsuccessful effort to improve the lives of U.S. blacks?Love your enemies!

Jon responds to me:
quote: Counter-argument to what? Your claim that BLM is no longer worthy of being listened to? I should think that pointing out that all your justifications for such are based upon things that aren't true is the definition of "counter-argument." Hint: i don't have to prove that 2 + 2 = 4 in order to prove they don't equal 5.
quote: Solutions to what? Centuries of racism? I should think that listening to the people who are affected by it is the first step. As I said, before you can even begin to come up with a solution, you need to understand the size and scope of the problem. But hey, they made you uncomfortable, so clearly they're not "serious." Here's someone who explained it much better:
Now, if you want to complain about this specific example (it appears that she's a right-wing Palin supporter), let's talk about it. If you want to talk about why Sanders has been bearing the brunt, let's talk about it. But to complain that black people should be nice and quiet and stop making waves and instead just ask politely is to dismiss their lives.Rrhain Thank you for your submission to Science.
