Recently, the NYT reported that the Mayo Clinic, Sloan Kettering and Wake Forest University created parthogenetic stem cells.
This remarkable advancement seems to sidestep the "destroying human life" stem cell issue.
For those who don't know, parthogenesis is the creation of an "embryo" thru chemical stimulation of an ovum. There is no sperm involved and the "embryo" will not develop beyond a blastocyte (it disintegrates).
Will stem cell opponents have a problem with stem cells derived from parthogenesis?

I am fairly certain there will be some group who will interpret this as onanism (Genesis 38: 9-10) just a new application applied to women, and fight its implementation. I imagine that even were a technique developed to produce stem cells from the epithelials of cheek swabs, someone would object. 'All life is sacred'. At least if it originates from humans.

"Debate is an art form. It is about the winning of arguments. It is not about the discovery of truth. There are certain rules and procedures to debate that really have nothing to do with establishing fact ” which creationists have mastered. Some of those rules are: never say anything positive about your own position because it can be attacked, but chip away at what appear to be the weaknesses in your opponent's position. They are good at that. I don't think I could beat the creationists at debate. I can tie them. But in courtrooms they are terrible, because in courtrooms you cannot give speeches. In a courtroom you have to answer direct questions about the positive status of your belief. We destroyed them in Arkansas. On the second day of the two-week trial we had our victory party!"

...there will be some group who will interpret this as onanism...
Well, now.
That's something I hadn't considered.
The creos et. al. are pushing "adult" stem cells ... so I don't think they would have a problem with buccal scrapings. However, when the "adult" cell being used is an ovum, I think they will have a royal hiss.
