The U.S. military is going to be conducting some kind of training exercise in several western and southwestern states from July to September this year. Heads are asploding across the internet as tin foil hat types burst a vein. While internet insanity is hardly new, and rather to be expected, it's now bleeding over into real life. Texas's Governor has ordered the state's national guard to monitor these exercises so that Texans will "know their safety, constitutional rights, private property rights and civil liberties will not be infringed."
I beg of you. Someone. Explain how these nuts keep getting elected.

Keeping an eye on the power
whats wrong with keeping an eye on the military?

It's buying into the fear - a far greater, more insidious and much more real a threat to liberty, than the army of any democracy could possibly be.

Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

I read an article about the meeting between the colonel ruing the show and some locals. They asked if their guns were going to be taken away, if ISIS fighters were going to be brought in, a whole plethora of paranoid idiocy.

It's insane to think that the national guard is needed to ensure that the military will not infringe on the rights of the populace. How can you not see that?

Maybe they should send in the Oklahoma National Guard to keep an eye on the Texas National Guard.

Holy. Shit.
I'm glad I didn't ruin my entire day by looking at this earlier. This must be why the WalMart in Midland really closed - so Obama's Kenyo-Muslin-Commie ISIS Storm Troopers could hide inside, back by the cat food and oil-filter departments.
Goddam Abbott was a known hazard, and still got 59% of the vote.

Oh yeah. The Walmart deal. Depending on whom you ask, those are going to be surface access to a complex of underground passages that the government will use to round up patriotic men who might try to resist their effort to take over the country.
There isn't enough tin foil in the country for these crackpots.

Greg Abbott should remember the Texas National Guard couldn't find their asses with a shovel and two flash lights. I know I served with them for four years. Ahh summer camp!! 2weeks of SNAFUS.we got lost one night driving around in a tracked vehicle and the Active duty guys had to order us to stop and stay put for the night before we ran someone over!

Even better!
Not National Guard, Texas State Guard. Said to be Boy Scouts for old folks. Remuneration is free hunting and fishing licenses, exemption from some tolls, and a few other minor perks. They are a legal militia (yes, that's what Texas calls them). But not in the class of the National Guard by a long shot.
Just what's needed to protect the locals from the US Army.

So let's do it! The 2nd Armored is already there in Ft. Hood and 1st Armored in Ft. Bliss. Bring in the Big Red One from Kansas, the 2nd Marine from Lejeune and the 101st Airborne from Kentucky.
We take the place over and make it part of the United States...
Wait.
Why would we invade someplace we already have?
And I don't see the need to force all the crazies into WalMart stores when most of them are already there anyway. Just lock the fuckin door.

But there is important stuff too.
Austin wants to make all those places selling BBQ put scrubbers on their smokers so folk are not exposed to secondary mesquite smoke.

Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!
