An American terrorism commentator has apologised for describing Birmingham as a "Muslim-only city" where non-Muslims "don't go" during a Fox News interview.
Steven Emerson told the channel that in London "Muslim religious police" beat "anyone who doesn't dress according to Muslim, religious Muslim attire".

I particularly like some of the #foxnewsfacts tweets that have arisen as a result

Just when you thought Fox News couldn't get any more ridiculous..
The purpose of Faux Noise Nutwerk is to distract you with fear and anger at easy targets so that you don't get angry about income inequality and the corruption of government.
Seems to be working.

Yeah, I read that one this morning.
As a native of said Birmingham, I can confirm that I can go, ooh, days without being attacked by any of the 200,000 or so Muslims, who (together with me) call Birmingham their home.
I can even walk down the street, see a Muslim, and not quake in fear, or seethe with hatred.
I have to say, what really struck me about this commentator (though fantasist would be a better term), is not so much the blatant hatred and fear he was mongering, but the sheer stupidity of choosing a major city in the UK to spout lies about. Our news networks pick up on Faux News and report on the more outrageous stuff, and we get in touch with you guys over in the US about shit like this, particularly when it's about us. If the idiot had picked Marseilles or Barcelona or something, he would have had to wait a good week or so before having to rush out some dumb ass apology, instead of being forced to do it within 24 hours.

Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

... in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. link

Just when you thought Fox News couldn't get any more ridiculous..
I've never thought that.

Also from that link (Big lie - Wikipedia):
quote:
The phrase was also used in a report prepared during the war by the United States Office of Strategic Services in describing Hitler's psychological profile:[5][6]
"His primary rules were: never allow the public to cool off; never admit a fault or wrong; never concede that there may be some good in your enemy; never leave room for alternatives; never accept blame; concentrate on one enemy at a time and blame him for everything that goes wrong; people will believe a big lie sooner than a little one; and if you repeat it frequently enough people will sooner or later believe it.[7]"

I do not think that this is actually an example of Godwin's Law.
quote:
Godwin's law applies especially to inappropriate, inordinate, or hyperbolic comparisons of other situations (or one's opponent) with Nazis — often referred to as "playing the Hitler card". The law and its corollaries would not apply to discussions covering known mainstays of Nazi Germany such as genocide, eugenics, or racial superiority, nor, more debatably, to a discussion of other totalitarian regimes or ideologies[citation needed], if that was the explicit topic of conversation, because a Nazi comparison in those circumstances may be appropriate, in effect committing the fallacist's fallacy.
Godwin's law - Wikipedia
Seems to me to be an appropriate use of a statement about Hitler.

It's actually worse than even that since they lump True Christians and UnTrue Christians together and all them UnTrue Christians are liberals and everyone knows they are secret Muslims.
