Pew Research have a little quiz. It isn't difficult - nothing college-level at all. Try it out, see how you score. And see how your score compares.

Quiz
I saw that on another site and tried it, got 13/13.
Could have done as well in 7th or 8th grade.

really simple quiz.
Can't imagine anyone missing any of those questions.

Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

13/13
I wonder who chose those questions? They seem a little too simple.

What if Eleanor Roosevelt had wings? -- Monty Python
One important characteristic of a theory is that is has survived repeated attempts to falsify it. Contrary to your understanding, all available evidence confirms it. --Subbie

What is really, really, really scary ...
What is really, really, really scary is that it said that 100% right was better than 93% of the respondents.
It might be a good quiz at the elementary school level, but I'd expect even any kids in 5th or 6th grade to get a 100% on that one.

Exactly. That was pretty telling.
And there was only one question on the quiz that I could imagine a sixth grader missing because of his religious beliefs.

Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. Thoreau: Civil Disobedience (1846)
I would say here something that was heard from an ecclesiastic of the most eminent degree; ‘That the intention of the Holy Ghost is to teach us how one goes to heaven, not how the heaven goes.’ Galileo Galilei 1615.
If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and deprecate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground, they want rain without thunder and lightning. Frederick Douglass

Average Adults
Kids in school probably wouldn't have any trouble, but adults tend to forget what they don't use or don't really care about.
Even though I got 100%, I can think of 5 people off the top of my head that wouldn't.

Re: Average Adults
Based on the norms I don't doubt you.
However that is really, really, really, really scary.
Sounds like the average American must be way below average. Definitely not Lake Wobegon material.

Half of all Americans are below average!
Something must be done immediately!

Seems it's more like 90+% of Americans are below average.

Below what average? Certainly not below the median for American...

My 9 yr old daughter, who is an avid grade 4 student, scored 10/13.
My 10 yr old son, who would rather drive a stake into his eye than go to school, scored 8/13. Better than 43% of the 1006 adults who responded.

Well, my imagination is much superior.
Not only did I miss 7 of the 13 quiz questions I also missed all three of the demographics questions at the end.
I defy anyone to beat that!
