What is this one, the Umpteenth Great Disappointment? (for context, Great Disappointment of 1844)
Though with so many disappointments from so many failed predictions of doomsday (eg, JW's predicted the end, predicted a second date when the first one passed without incident, and when the second one also failed just took to saying that it's any time now), it's getting harder and harder to generate much interest. Most of the interest comes right after the prediction fails and those who believed in it and gave up all their worldly possessions, family, everything, want to have a real heart-to-heart with the fool who made the prediction.

Phooey
If I had a nickel for every time some nutcase group announced the end of the world I could retire.
Armageddon tired of all this nonsense!

Religious belief does not constitute scientific evidence, nor does it convey scientific knowledge.

some people think a comet'll make the world blow up & burn,
some say nuclear winter, some predict a Super Germ,
some believe in The Rapture, some in cryogenic nappin'...
but they've all got it all wrong, 'cause none of that stuff's gonna happen.
each one's usin' it as an excuse to keep their hands on their lap &
if you're waitin' for The End Times ... they're not gonna happen.

A friend of mine I talk with on radio said he seen something about it on CNN, so I googled it and this site seemed the best.
It never fails to amaze me how much effort somebody put into providing details and scripture to support why this will be the day.

These idiots are all over the place. I've seen them several times around the city I live in, with signs saying the world will end on 5/21/11 and that "the Bible guarantees it!" Apparently there's some local "family radio" station that's been pushing it. I don't think I've ever seen so many end-of-the-world nutballs with signs before.

There was a classic scene in the TV version of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, one that could never have been done on the original radio show. The Vogon descructor fleet arrives to destroy the earth to make way for a hyperspatial by-pass (AKA "freeway", I believe). Pan of street scene with everybody standing there staring up at the ships, including a nut-case wearing a sandwich sign proclaiming the end of the world. Then the Vogon commander announces the immenent destruction of the earth. Same pan of street scene, only now everybody's yelling at the ships, telling them to go away. Except for the nut-case who has abandonned his sign and high-tailed it out of there.

So.....anyone here agree??
Oh, yes, I most certainly agree!
Unfortunately, Saturday 21 May is also the Preakness Stakes. The second jewel of horse racing's Triple Crown.
Since I'll be busy, I guess I'll miss the rapture.
Leave me a message here and let me know how it all turns out.
Here's hoping Animal Kingdom can win the Preakness. It's been too long since we've had a Triple Crown contender. Then three weeks later at Belmont maybe, just maybe, we can get in one last Triple Crown winner before the earth is destroyed. That would be good.

I'm confused about something. Isn't it suppose to be 2012? I've already placed all my stocks in 2012.

Family Radio is a well known old wackaloon group. Actually more of a cult
Family Radio - Christian music, Hymns, bible teaching, podcasts
Harold Camping is a grade A nutball

That's the Mayan end of the world. This is the looney christian end of the world. I guess they didn't want to be upstaged by the Mayans.

Well if the people that are most "christ-like" are the ones getting raptured then I don't think there will be many empty mansions.

Please refresh our memories, since I haven't seen that one since it came out in 2005. You don't mean all the bar patrons lying on the pub floor with bags over their heads? In the TV adaptation, we only got the barkeep giving "Last call!"
Though we loved the reason why the POV gun wouldn't work on Trillian. Just think how much one of those would blow a fundamentalist's mind.
