A friend of mine sent me this link - Science Host - since he knew I liked science and would be interested. Sadly though, I don't meet the requirements, or it would have been perfect for me.
quote:
A major national cable network and award winning production company are looking for a Science Expert/Enthusiast with an outgoing personality and renegade spirit to Host a series about the intersection of science, art and the Maker’s movement.
Ideal host would be Zack Galifinakis with a PhD in physics or engineering. Barring that, looking for an entertaining man or woman (20s or 30s, any ethnicity) who is well-spoken, engaging + knowledgeable and able to explain complex ideas in straightforward language to a mainstream tv audience. Prior on-camera experience not required but performance background a plus.
Anyone qualified and interested should send a recent photo, resume and cover note ASAP to: barbarabarnacasting@gmail.com.
But I figured this would be the place where someone might meet these requirements.
This is not a debate topic, but I didn't know how to post this for everyone to look at. Hope someone qualifies for it and applies. Good luck.

IOW, Michio Kaku need not apply.

Haha! Yeah, they're are looking for the antithesis to a Kaku-type.
It said "enthusiast" so I sent my info, and I'm quite Galifinakis with my humor. But I think they want an actual scientist. It would be cool if someone here got the gig, cos I'd be expecting a head comedy-writer job on the show.

Big Bang!
Hi onifre
Long time no type.
In my mind, the perfect guy for this is Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory.
Then again, he's a fictional character, and apart from God, fictional characters don't seem to command healthy, long-term respect.

I haven't watched that show, I've heard it's good. I'm sure an actor will work too, but I don't know for how long once his/her credentials were exposed.

I really enjoy Brian Cox in the series "Wonders of the Solar System". He is definitely not the Galifinakis type, but he is easy on the ears and is able to explain complex physics without "talking down" to the audience. The British accent doesn't hurt either. I'm a bit biased in that regard since I grew up watching biology documentaries narrated by Sir David Attenborough.

Yeah Cox was/is great. I enjoyed his series, especially the one on "Time" - from a layman's perspective, it was easy to follow.
I like Neal DeGrasse Tyson's PBS series best, though. He has a lot more personality than Cox and even, dare I say it, Sagan.

I can't stand Tyson, but that is my own opinion. He seems a bit too smarmy.
But that doesn't really matter. It sounds like this cable network is looking for a fresh face which is a really good idea. I would hope that they find a woman with an engaging personality and the education to back it up. The lack of women in the scientific fields has been shameful over the last 30 years. Science would be much better off if more women were attracted to the profession.

Yeah Cox was/is great
Fuck off - he stole my gig and I saw him playing keyboards for a crap support band whilst I was working on Active Galactic Nuclei, and he hadn't even started uni yet. Bastard. And everyone's "oh, isn't Cox wonderful" and "isn't Brian just the perfect new face for British science" But I'm not jealous, oh no... and my bastard best "friend" bought my Cox's new book for Christmas just so he could watch my face when I opened the wrapping paper...
now, how do I wipe this foam from my teeth?

That's hilarious. Maybe you can convince Hawking to run Cox over a few times.

That sucks! It must be his lovely hair that seduced me into liking him. Sorry, cave. If it helps matters, I've learned a lot more from you about cosmology than, Cox.

He has the maturity of a 13 year old though.
I once watched one of his lectures. Half way through he said "bullshit".
He then seemed to be torn between giggling while saying "I made a swearing word!"
and being proud that he had used a 'grown-up' word on TV.
If he's so fucking clever then why hasn't he become an adult?
Even his voice sounds like it is only just begun to break.

Well, we did have a plan to lay tracks outside his office so we could make him go where we wanted, so it might have worked...
But it's too late now. Look what the pair of bastards have been up to...
