Since I put on my avatar on my Admin account, I discovered that Bluejay is actually a Nashville Predators fan. And so it got me thinking about who else could be a hockey fan around here ??
It would be cool to know if there are any NHL teams near you even if you aren't a fan.

Go Hawks Go! we've been on a slide since after the Olympics due to a lack of toughness, but Stanley Cup: HERE WE COME!!!!!!!

"Some people think God is an outsized, light-skinned male with a long white beard, sitting on a throne somewhere up there in the sky, busily tallying the fall of every sparrow. Othersfor example Baruch Spinoza and Albert Einsteinconsidered God to be essentially the sum total of the physical laws which describe the universe. I do not know of any compelling evidence for anthropomorphic patriarchs controlling human destiny from some hidden celestial vantage point, but it would be madness to deny the existence of physical laws."-Carl Sagan
"Show me where Christ said "Love thy fellow man, except for the gay ones." Gay people, too, are made in my God's image. I would never worship a homophobic God." -Desmond Tutu

I'm not much of a hockey fan. But I am in Black Hawks territory.

I was watching a fight at the stadium, when all of a sudden a hockey game broke out

Hockey?
Would I be a spoilsport if I stipulated that hockey is a sport played on grass (or what passes for grass) by men or women who wear normal sports attire, whereas ice hockey is a testosterone laden stick fight on ice between whimps in ridiculously protective outfits, where a puck plays a marginal role?

No, not really. The women's hockey team is also much nicer to look at than the beardie guys of icehockey as well.

I used to play that kind of hockey when I was young (in Australia). And that's what "hockey" always meant for me, until I had to adapt to the American way of speaking.

You don't say. There's this ex-player, whose Portuguese name I shall not mention, who is responsible, through her appearance, for more twisted necks than are caused in all fights in all ice hockey games in the whole of spacetime.

Since I'm Dutch as well, I think I've got a pretty good idea which one you're referring to. It wouldn't happen to be this beauty, now would it?
That's what we mean when we say hockey, Yanks!

Indeed, that's her. Although that's not what she used to wear when chasing a hockey ball.
Need I explain that I like hockey?

Hi, Slevesque.
I'm a recent convert to NHL hockey (as in, last year). Kentucky sits in the television markets of the Blue Jackets and the Predators, and pretty much every game for both teams is on TV. Since the NFL makes me wait a week between games, I started putting on hockey games to get my sports fix during the week.
I've kept up with Olympic hockey over the years, though, and I have always rooted for Sweden in international competitions (I have Swedish heritage). Incidentally, I also currently want Slovakia to fall off the face of the earth (but it'll pass eventually).

When I was growing up, we played that old Nintendo Ice Hockey game. For some reason, it had Poland, but not Finland. I grew up thinking Poland was good at hockey (which they kind of were in the 1970's, I guess).

Big Bad Bruins
When I was a little boy, the Boston Bruins were my fav team. Orr, O'Reilly, Bourque, Neely, etc.!!!
But I am feeling more like Lisa Simpson these days . . .
Mr. Burns: So, what do you think of todays popular music/sports scene.
Lisa Simpson: I think it distracts people from more important social issues.
Mr. Burns: My god, are you always on!?
(Irony to use a pop culture icon to make my point about important social issues.)
