I was listening to NPR this morning on my long trip home from work and they had a bit on about how the media blows shit out of proportion. They then brought on a gentleman who was touting this site, Futurity.org, that has all science and health news directly from the Universities themselves whom are doing the studies. He went on to mention how they aren't after the "glitzy" headlines and that the site is more for people who are really interested in all things science and health related and get their "glitzy" headlines elsewhere.
Not sure this quite fits in the "Evo vs. Creo" mantra here, but the real science buffs should like it.

I go to Science Daily to get my science and future news updates. It pulls articles directly from the Universities and science journals as well.

One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we've been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We're no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It is simply too painful to acknowledge -- even to ourselves -- that we've been so credulous. - Carl Sagan, The Fine Art of Baloney Detection
"You can't convince a believer of anything; for their belief is not based on evidence, it's based on a deep seated need to believe." - Carl Sagan
"It is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring." - Carl Sagan, The Demon-Haunted World

The blogosphere is where it is at
I'm of the view that if you want reliable science reporting on the frontiers your best bet is the blogosphere. There are a large number of professional researchers out there blogging on their area of knowledge. And there are various aggregators out there which will collect the latest from a spectrum of them.
I use the RSS of Peer Review on Science Blogs as my primary science source.

Same here. As well as Daily Galaxy. However, Daily Galaxy seems to have a few too many grammatical errors for my liking.
