In the Islam thread, schraf writes:
I mean, look at all the women that were killed as witches in the US and in Europe. Your religion made all of Europe stagenate in the Dark Ages, and that's exactly where you ALL want to take us back to if you had your way.
On the behalf of the cats of America, I would like to remind you that they almost wiped out the cat population in Europe during the inquisitions, especially the black ones.
So you see, women weren't the only ones that got hit hard in those times. Cats were also hit pretty hard as well.

Isn't that suppose to be one of the reasons the plague spread so far and fast? A major preditor of rats and mice wasn't around in sufficient numbers?

That's the reason why I put it in the coffee house!
I was trying to push schraf's buttons since she's a hardcore feminist.
And how the hell is this bypassing the proposed new topics procedures?

Yes. The more people died, the more they blamed those darn witches. The more they blamed those darn witches, the more they killed those darn witches and their associates, the cats. The more they killed those darn witches and the cats, the more people died from the plague. It was a downward spiral that led to a third of Europe's population's demise.

As a cat lover, I am also appalled that the Dark Ages people were so misinformed about that lovely species.
Mice and rats were considered wholesome symbols of home and hearth.
Ironic, ain't it?
More science influencing thought = disease cures, the longest, healthiest lives in history for humans
More religion controlling life = bubonic plague, witch burnings, jailings for heresy.

and they want to do it again. the religious reicht wants to sentence all of africa to death by imposing an abstinence only aids education program on a culture in which that's rarely an option.
funny that this keeps happening.

This is why people like me, you, and schraf are here. We have been at war with religious zealots for the last... forever and the war is still being fought these days. If our side suddenly stops caring, then I have no doubt that the religious side of this board and society in general will turn our civilization into another dark ages. Since I am their primary target, I'm sure I'd be among the first ones to arrive in their torture chambers so they could make me confess to the charge of being a devil's associate.

So essentially it goes..
Dark age Xtian fundyism -> Less cats -> Bubonic plauge -> labour shortage -> end of fuedalism -> renaissance...
Kind of satisfying in an ironic way that (at least in this case) there seemed to be a self righting mechanism.....

Actually, it was more like:
Dark age Xtian fundyism -> plague -> inquisitions -> women burnings -> less cats -> worse plagues -> more inquisitions -> even worse plagues -> even more women burnings -> labour shortage.
Unifications and formations of states -> renaissance -> more plagues -> more women burnings -> even less cats -> etc...
The formation of the various European states had nothing to do with less cats. It was an inevitable result of centuries of feudal warlords going for each others' throats.

I agree that science has brought us away from the evil of dark ages. But evil still exists, and it's not just christians/religious who are evil. Yet Schraff thinks we should own the title. Is she any better?
Didn't she say we christians should all be killed off, in that Islam thread?
"I think you should all be killed as quickly and cheaply as possible." - Schraff.

Who are you that you are appauled? You buy into yourself too much dear, you're only a lil woman remember. Jus' like I'm a lil man. In a big universe. But if you can't see past trying to rid one particular faith - then you are everything that you are against.
What is one man's wisdom anyway? If you were scientific Schraff - you'd impress us with an objective stance. But this is far from the case, reading your recent biblical/christian intolerance.
So according to you - you are appauled that cats are killed while you eat your Sunday chicken. Why do you exalt yourself so much?
And if you are vegetarian - and some boffin found out that your cabbage screamed when you stuck a fork in it, how righteouss would you be then?
