Author | Topic: Hey Crashfrog, I have a link to some pretty funny show of ignorance. | |||||||||||||||||||||||

This is intended to be in short subject.
First of all, if you are offended by gay porn, please do not go there. The site is called just us boys and it has some links to gay porn. I go there to debate and do other manly things... Apparently, there are many ignorant hardheaded people who thinks they know everything in the gay community as well. Crashfrog once said that ignorant bigotry is like a train wreck... can't look away. Well, go to here. Read what gsdx has to say about hypothesis and theory. It's funny as well as sad. Yes, I am Darth Mal in that place. I think it's just possible your inflammatory style has undermined your attempt to correct the misunderstanding.
I would reccomend that, in this or future debates, it's best to avoid presenting statements as authoritative, like "these words mean such-and-such", but rather, as a function of how they are used by scientists. That is, after all, what you are trying to prove; that scientists use "theory" to refer to well-developed models and "hypothesis" to refer to potentially testable conjectures. To that end it would be better to present examples of scientists using these terms - talkorigin.org has much to say on the subject of the meaning of "theory" - and not to simply state that this is how they're used. If you never leave the realm of assertion, you're easily countered by dictionary games. Remember too that most people never stop to think how dictionaries are made; they assume that dictionaries are perscriptive, not descriptive, and therefore presume that dictionaries are unquestionable authorities on the subject of words. Just a suggestion. Why call your opponents dumbasses when you can show them the evidence and make it clear without having to say it? Much more effective. Darth, I did not find the link, but I "looked" at the train wreck and I think that links like this are inappropriate for this forum. I'm not preaching holier than thou at you...after all, I snooped around the link. What point did my "ignorant" mind miss?
BTW what do these "boys" debate over here? Am I sounding too much like a fundie? I always see you as more of a family guy, Darth! Your Nieces and Nephews seem to love you! Don't hang with the liberal gays...they don't seem to be as pro family oriented. Am I offending you yet? I don't mean to. This message has been edited by Phatboy, 09-21-2004 09:41 AM

Don't hang with the liberal gays...they don't seem to be as pro family oriented. Yeah, hang out with the Conservative Christian gays instead. There's nothing as fun as a big self-hatred party. (Trust me, I play Dungeons and Dragons. Natch!)

Yes, they do. I tried to add a new topic in short topics and got rejected. Short topics don't need to be proposed. The Laminator B ULLS HIT For goodness's sake, please vote Democrat this November!

Yeah, you are right. I went a bit far there. I was just irritated and amazed that he commented "theory has no evidence... that's why they are theories..." I just had no idea that people could be so convincing in something that is so obviously wrong.
Anyway, I doubt I'll be able to go anywhere in that forum anymore... and I don't care. All I want now is for him to read that page I linked. The Laminator B ULLS HIT For goodness's sake, please vote Democrat this November!

Hmmm. Well that makes no sense. There aren't enough moderators to approve topics fast enough - by the time a short topic got approved it wouldn't be timely anymore.
This'll be fixed in a minute...

I was wondering about that. I have started short topics before and had to put them in propose new topics. Always thought it was normal.

Well, the train wreck is there's this guy that claims to know what he's talking about at the same time as he's asserting that hypothesis and theory are synonymous. He didn't even bother to do a google search. A quick google search would have showed him that they are not the same thing.

I'm impressed that you know that much about me. gays...they don't seem to be as pro family oriented. Am I offending you yet? I don't mean to. Yes, sometimes I do not like some of the guys on there. If you hang out there long enough, you will see that some of them don't really care about having a family or adopting kids. This is hypocritical, I think, on their part because they're the same people that are arguing for gay rights to be accepted into the legal institution of marriage and adopt children from orphanages. Anyway, I tolerate them because, even though they do not share the same view as I am in regard to family matters, they are still a step up from christian fundies who want to kick my ass. No, you are not offending me. I don't care what kind of opinion you have as long as you keep it where it should be, in your mind. However, if you try to get a law passed to violate my rights, I will be very offended. By the way, try to limit your responses, as I will try to limit mine. I'd hate to see an angry moose take out his magic wand and send this thread to the inferno of hell. The Laminator B ULLS HIT For goodness's sake, please vote Democrat this November!

quote: Its strange, but it seems that the vast majority of people actually *pushing* for same sex marriage and adoption rights are lesbian couples. Sure, gay couples tend to support it... but push for it? Some do, but not many. Here in Iowa, there were two things that really pointed this out to me. One, we had same sex couples all show up at the courthouse on one day to file for a marriage license (knowing we'd be rejected); we had like 30 or so couples. 80% or more were lesbian. From there, we switched to legal and strategic planning. Of the couples who went to that, about 90% were lesbian. Strangely, it still seems like men get the "face of the marriage equality movement" position, just like discussions about homosexuality in general almost always seem 90% focused on men. Why is this? Don't we count? I can't tell you how many times I've discussed online with strangers their objections to homosexuality. If the stranger is male, the conversation almost invariably turns to "I find the concept of two men having sex gross." (usually phrased more crudely). Hello! Men aren't the only people out there... and the media is only marginally better than your average person when it comes to this. "Illuminant light, illuminate me."
