Quotes can now be nested indefinitely.
The list feature has been enhanced. Lists can now start at values other than 1. For example, [List=6] will begin a list at 6, while [List=ci] will begin a list at ci.
When editing messages, the text box now contains the verbatim text originally typed in by the user. The same is true of the text of quoted messages.
These features represent a significant change. Please provide any suggestions or report any problems or bugs by appending to this thread, or by sending email to admin@.

A small bug was identified involving bare links, ie, links not inside the [URL] and [/URL] codes or inside an HTML anchor (

There is a fair amount of "quotation structure butchering" happening.
It's often hard to tell what is the quoted, and what is the replies to the quoted.
Could the responsible parties try to be more careful, and try to prevent or fix these things.

Guilty party of the moment is robinrohan, in the topic string "How Do You Know The Truth", at http://EvC Forum: How do you know truth?.
I had previously fixed the quote structure of message 8, but messages 18, 24, and 29 still need repairing.
Please see the UBB code help page, at EvC Forum: dBCodes, if needed.

A couple additional notes about UBB codes:
  • A more up-to-date UBB code guide is at http:///WebPages/UBBCode.html. I see that the "UBB Code is ON" link points to the old guide - I'll fix that soon.
  • You can fix your messages by clicking on the "edit" link at the bottom of your message. If you then click on "Preview" it will display your message with misused UBB codes highlighted in red. In the case of the posts mentioned by Adminnemouseus, they all have an open quote but no close quote.

In the robinrohan example I cite in message 5, seemingly (more or less) the initial paragraph is quoted material, and then there is a reply. Then there is more quoted material and more reply. Since I wasn't the one making the replies, it would require study of the original message to determine what the quoted material is. Past experience is, that fixing such messages can take me something like 10 minutes each, and even then I might not get it right. That's why I'm really trying to pass the job back to the person making the replies.
People really need to uses the preview function, to see if the attributes of the quotes and replies are clear. In the robinrohan examples, I find it hard to know who is saying what.
once again, I'd like to mention that anyone can look at any message in the edit mode. That's a good way to see how others do things. Only the message originator or someone with admin powers can actually successfully submit edit changes.

With the blessing of the big Admin guy, I have made a minor tweek to the member's editing setting.
Members can still edit their messages in the customary way, but they will no longer be able to delete the message entirely.
Thus, a member can withdraw the content of the message, by editing to a blank message, or by posting a note such as "message withdrawn", but some sort of message will persist, with the information of the posters name, and also any editing names.
Message deletion has been a very minor happening, but the above mentioned will eliminate any possibility. This will prevent missing message numbers from happening, and will prevent entire topics from being deleted by having the first message deleted.
This message deletion restriction DOES NOT restrict deletions by anyone with administrative status, but I would strongly suggest that the administrators also voluntarily act as if it did.

New UBB Codes: Face, Color and Size
New UBB codes for face, color and size have just been added. They are described on the What are UBB Codes? page.

Bug affecting Administrators
I have just found a bug that only affects administrators. If you use some of the board maintenance features, such as opening, closing or moving threads, your profile will be modified so as to erase your avatar, and turn off email notification if it was turned on. I'll fix this bug soon.

New UBB Code: [bgcolor]
Announcing a new UBB code: [bgcolor]
With this UBB code you can change the background color of your text, even in mid-sentence. You can even change to a light background and dark text. Click on the edit link of this message to see how this is done, or see What are UBB Codes? for more information.

Announcing yet another new UBB code: [blockcolor]

[bgcolor] only provides a new background color behind text. Where's there's no text, for example at the end of lines and between paragraphs, you get the original background color. This background color has a ragged right edge that aligns with the ragged right edge of the text.
[blockcolor] provides a rectangular area of background color. I'm using it right now to set the background color of this message to powderblue, and I'm using the [color] UBB code to set the text color to black. You can use the [bgcolor] UBB code to change the background color for just the text while inside a [blockcolor] region. See What are UBB Codes? for more information.

Release of Updated Software
Updated software containing significant internal changes has just been released. There are no significant features contained in this release. Most of the updates are in preparation for a future change to a login format.
There are a few minor fixes/enhancements:
  • You can once again edit messages with signatures without having strange text appear in the message.
  • Signatures will now always appear at the bottom of a message, even beneath the notes about edits to messages.
  • Signatures now appear in message previews, if you select the "Show Signature" checkbox.
  • If you forget to include your signature, it can now be added retroactively through the edit function. It can also be removed.
  • For moderators and administrators, the announcement function has been enhanced and several bugs fixed. Announcements now appear on the "All Topics" page.
Please post to this thread or send email to Admin if you encounter any problems or bugs.
