Hey! I am interested in switching over to natural / organic diet as my doctor says that I should as soon as I can. I am looking for affordable natural or organic food to cure myself as I do not have too much money. Someone please help me out! Thanks!

What possible reason could a doctor have for you to switch to organic for your health?

Sigh.
He lives in a country with public heathcare - which, for poor people over here in the US, is like the most fevered dream of paradise - and he'd rather turn to organic quackery for relief. Some people.

Hi Justin. Good doctors who actually consider diet as a major factor in wellness, health and healing are likely more tolerated by your government as in Europe, Mexico and other nations. Consider yourself fortunate to have such a doctor.
The answer to your question imo is that in counting the cost of food, you need to consider the amount of nutrition per dollar you are getting for your hard earned income. Which is more expensive per lb, a lb of pasturized cheese or a lb of avacado? What is more expensive, a lb of ice cream or a lb of mango? What is more expensive, a lb of raw organic rolled oats or a lb of potatoe chips?
There's all the relative cheap foods you need for correcting the diet that has made you sickly or physically weak. The fact that you are on line indicates that you have at your fingertips a whole lot of info on wellness naturally. As well, your doc may have some good suggestions.
Welcome to EvC. I hope you enjoy the site and read up on the Forum Guidelines and other things that will help you get accostumed.

Oh, BTW crash, I recently learned of a big study done in the UK that found that organic produce grown for the study had a lot more antioxidants in them than their conventionally-grown counterparts.
They aren't sure why yet, but there's supposed to be some follow up work to figure it out.

I've heard of that, that organic tomatoes for instance have something like double the lycopene; the suggestion is that tomatoes produce lycopene as a response either to nutrient stress or as a response to predation. And it may just be that they're using cultivars that naturally have more lycopene, simply because they're hardier.
You see that a lot in organic crops; they're usually cultivars selected for hardiness, and a lot of that hardiness comes from natural pesticides.
But they're no less dangerous from being "natural." Recently there was a recall of organic celery because it was so high in natural pesticides that people were getting rashes just from handling it. At any rate, you could simply buy lycopene supplements for what you'd wind up spending on organic fruit.

Oh sure, I get all that.
I am of the impression, though, that the study in question used the same cultivars, and that the only difference was in how they were grown. I don't know that for sure, though.
It is just that I think that both of us have argued in the past that, nutritionally, organic is no different from conventional, but I now see that isn't always the case.
I wonder if Quackwatch has been updated to reflect the findings?
Just wanted to get it out there that, yes, contrary to popular impression around here, people like you and I really do change our minds in the light of new evidence.

This is true. My position has changed from "organic foods provide no benefits over regular foods" to "organic foods don't provide nearly enough benefit over regular foods to justify the cost."
But, yeah, evidence and all that.

The body can't be replaced. If you're going to skimp you might better opt to get frugal with cheap oil & fuel for the replaceable auto, applying the savings to the irreplaceable mind, body and soul.

There's no evidence of any health benefits from organic foods, and personally, I like my pesticides on the surface of my fruits and vegetables where I can wash them off, rather than expressed throughout the flesh of the plant, the way organic pesticides are.
I prefer to expend money where it will make a meaningful change in the quality of my life. Organic foods don't do that at all.
