Attention All Lurkers
Attention, all Active Members! (If you are reading this, you are an active member regardless of whether you ever post!)
I have been going back through our Members List and placing members who have not posted in over two years and/or who have posted fewer than 10 posts on inactive status.
My cleanup chore does not suspend or eliminate anyone from EvC...it just makes it so you have to make yourself active again when you sign in....provided you remember how to log in. If you forgot your log-in information, it is a moot* point anyway. You can always get a new password here though, again, many folks just prefer to read without logging in, which is fine also.
I encourage all lurkers and current active members who have member profiles to review their profiles and update their information.Take a moment and tell a bit about yourself (in your profile)so that visitors browsing our site can see our diverse interests at EvC.
You are of course free to divulge nothing, and can also keep your hobbies and interests space blank.
You have the option to make your e-mail addresses invisible, and it is my understanding that Search Engine and spammer web-crawlers can't access information not visible.
Our actual active members is probably closer to 1500 than to 3400.
Any comments concerning this update are encouraged. (We administrators are currently discussing how long a person can not post and still be considered an active member.
Anyone who lurks, is registered, and never or rarely posts...I encourage you to post to this topic, even if you just say aye. It will let me know that you are still an active EvC member (though a lurker! )

looks good to me. what about the "online now"? are really potentially 300 people browsing the forums and not choosing to become a member, or just not log in?

keep your mind from this way of enquiry, for never will you show that not-being is

Maybe there are 20 people and 280 search engine web crawlers

Quality Over Quantity

Quality is determined by involvement. You are a great example! I can see your posts improving more each time you post already! Also....Lurkers are quite free to lurk. It just helps to know who is human and who is a spamming machine!

Lurk and Learn, eh? Maybe that new word could be Learnk
Thanks for replying. You had oodles of 2007 posts anyway so you were in no danger of being targeted. I am looking at folks who have not posted for over a year.

Re: Attention All Lurkers
Hi Phat,
I'm lurking and learning too. I posted more under my other account "kakariki", but lost my password. To complicate things more the email address kakariki pointed to was closed because I never used it. Any chance you could merge the two accounts?

At the present time there are 46 real people total online, the other 254 is Yahoo indexing.

Huh? Yahoo indexing actually shows up as visitors?

Owing to the deficiency of the English language, I have occasionally used the academic jargon generator to produce phrases that even I don't fully understand. The jargons are not meant to offend anyone or to insult anyone's intelligence!

Yahoo Indexing

I suppose it translates into some visitors and new members continually searching topics.

BUZSAW B 4 U 2 C Y BUZ SAW.
The immeasurable present eternally extends the infinite past and infinitely consumes the eternal future.

There will be connections open to the forum web server.
On a web site I manage, I first find all IP addresses that have requested "robots.txt", then delete all queries from those IP addresses as the first step in summarizing the logs.

Re: Attention All Lurkers
OK...spelling flame...lowest of low...but it's a pet peeve:
"Moot" point. "MOOT" point. A "mute" point would be a point that doesn't speak and since points don't have mouths, they're all "mute."
edit by Phat: Thanks, Rrhain. You may be picky, but I value your correction. Note that mute is now moot in my post above.
Edited by AdminPhat, : 2 cents worth

Rrhain

Thank you for your submission to Science. Your paper was reviewed by a jury of seventh graders so that they could look for balance and to allow them to make up their own minds. We are sorry to say that they found your paper "bogus," specifically describing the section on the laboratory work "boring." We regret that we will be unable to publish your work at this time.
